Advice on country clubs in metro New Orleans

I humbly ask the board’s opinion of the best place to join. Family of four and looking for the total package in a facility. What are the best options out there?

I’m poor. What do you do at country clubs?

Metairie CC is pretty darn nice. My brother is a member. The staff there is cool AF.
I only go to New Orleans CC for Mardi Gras parties. It seems to me that it is more prestigious, but I am not sure it has the amenities that Metairie CC has.

Where do you live? If you are further than 30ish minutes, your use will go down. That should color your decision heavily and narrow down the choices.
We've looked at a few and the common wisdom is that MCC is a great place for families and NOCC is for old men from old families here in town. The north shore clubs are only really useful if you're on the north shore, same for west bank clubs and Chateau out in Kenner. It's not fun to drive 45-60 minutes each way to relax, especially if you have kids that are itching to get in the pool. Also folks are known to imbibe at country clubs, so you don't want to drive far after that.
In addition to amenities, you want to see how the staff functions, how leadership functions, club capital needs and debt situation (you sure don't want a $10k special assessment your first year), any other pending liabilities... etc. Also many clubs these days will put your downstroke on a 3-5 year plan. Some are just considered payment plans, others are legal bonds. If you go down that route verify what your status is. This is useful because after a year your opinion might change or you might change jobs, you don't want to be on the hook for another $10-50k if you quit.
That said, make sure you really get to know the place well. Meet 3-5 families and get a serious letter of recommendation, don't have the membership manager finagle one for you. Play golf a few times there. Ask colleagues and friends what they know and who they know. Clubs are supposed to be for like-minded people. It's not so much about keeping people out as it is attracting folks that have the same values.
I keep a few national memberships and have met some of my best friends at those places. Your kids could meet lifelong friends as well.
Good luck.

Metairie has better food and is a bit less stuffy than New Orleans CC.
Metairie has a better family atmosphere. NOCC a better choice if you want to rub elbows with former Kings of Comus and such.

What you are looking to get from a club is paramount. Are you into golf, tennis, pool, sailing, social? Initiation fees are a consideration too.

Green Acres on Transcontinental and West Napoleon if you can get in.

We just do the yacht club. Would your kids enjoy that?

The one on Louisa has the best food, lots of interesting activities the kids wont see anywhere else.

Sit around laughing at people like you and minorities. Country Clubs are a celebration of wealthy white nationalism and the patriarchy.

Pretentious people, weak drinks, dated facilities, crowded and bad food. What a combo.

And we make fun of you at the trailer park,

I dated a girl for a couple of years whose family belonged to NOCC. Going in there felt like stepping back in time. A lot of the help is black and the vibe is very much old world snobbery. The facilities aren’t bad, but they aren’t great either. Been to a few functions at Metairie CC which is just less snobby and has better facilities like some have said. If you’re on the northshore, Stone creek is the best one IMO.
