Advice for PETE student graduating in May from oil and gas engineers.

I'm going to have around a 3.1 once I graduate. I have no job lined up and didn't receive any interviews through careers2geaux a month ago. I've thought about getting my MBA, starting as low as a rig hand, or getting a job through a finance company with an engineering degree. I've already started calling up companies to get my name in the hat. I plan on doing that all summer to see if I can find anything with an exploration or service company. If that doesn't work out what would y'all do?

Study like hell for the LSAT to try and get a decent Scholly to a law school with a great energy law program. Oil patch is brutal right now for recent pete grads, especially ones with sub 3.5 GPA's.

I knew a couple of guys that did both PETE and CE/structural. At least in the northeast the market is hot for consulting engineers doing structural stuff. Maybe go back and get a masters in another discipline and be able to do different trades?
Most people I know with an MBA and an engineering degree don't do engineering anymore... Not that it's a bad thing, but do you want to be an engineer?
Eta- the only way I would EVER advocate doing law school is if you went into patent law and passed both the state bar and patent bar exam. Those guys make beaucoup $$$ starting off (last I checked $150k average out of school). But only engineers/scientist can be patent attorneys, so it might work for you.

Here is a game plan. What is your priority?
1. Do you have kids or a wife to support? Get a job. Doesn't matter. Get your foot through the door somewhere.
2. Are you single with student loans? Look at Teach for America and get your loans subsidized or forgiven. No need to pile more debt with MBA in such a short span of time.
3. Single? Daddy paid for your school? Get him to pay for more school but not PETE because you'll probably hate with a 3.1 GPA.

Honest advice. Look for a job in production. Just because the wells aren't making as much money doesn't mean they aren't producing.

go be a plumber. as an engineer, you don't have to work under a licensed plumber for 7 years first. you can simply start right away. a plumber will make more than a doctor in about 10 years. this generation doesn't know how to do shite.
