Didn't know this was a thing

This was an online order, and tip was added when the order was made online. Then I get to the restaurant and there's a spot for additional tip. Obviously not a big deal, but I thought it was kind of odd.

Olive Garden

And no I'm not fat because I ordered a salad with my pasta, and washed it down with a diet soda.

I get more worked up over places like Pizza Hut where you can pay online, but then they still give you a receipt to sign with a tip line when you drive through. Dominos FTW!

I put the tip myself online.
I just don't see what they'd ask for an additional tip

Not as annoying as tip options for smoothie places or a quick stop into a donut shop. Tipping cashiers is just weird and I come from having worked a restaurant in school. At least that shite makes sense.

I ordered online at Dominos last weekend and paid for the order already so when I went to pick it up the person who got the pizzas for me informed me that they would appreciate a tip if I wanted to add it to the receipt.

I know we talk about tipping a lot on this site but I simply do not understand what I was supposed to tip for in that situation. I ordered something and picked it up myself not even a drive thru. Why would I tip there? It didnt help that I had a baby strapped to me either while I was carrying my pizzas out.

Did you get insurance instead of tipping?

Jealous they’re stuck in the store and the drivers are always talking about tips probably

Nope. Same order I usually make since I have an login. In fact, they have never said that the other times I ordered. This was the only time. New guy too.

Do what I do. Say “what am I tipping you for?” and stare at them while they stumble around for an answer. If they pop back with something reasonable, say “ok” and give them a couple of bucks.

Maybe you were a cheap bastard at first and then they got there and you liked them so much that you didn't want to be cheap anymore. Now you have a chance to redeem yourself.

Maybe they can toss some weed in an empty pizza box if they really want a tip

Can't blame them for trying. People are so easily guilted into tipping. I can easily see someone seeing that line and adding on some more, or even forgetting the initial tip and think they're doing it for the first time.

I usually write "on table" but if it's a drive thru I ALWAYS write it and get a little laugh by their expression when they read it. (I make damn sure my eyes remain on my food until they put it in my hands.)
