4 kids. Never added any. State Farm 3 minor wrecks over a ten year period by 3 different kids. All covered . Now this was over ten years ago, so things may have changed. Clued in to this by a good friend who was an adjuster .

In Louisiana? No way. In other states could be.

Definitely not! I’m the one started the post! I was just curious if it was State Farm or other. It seems State Farm is the main ones I have heard of doing this. I currently have Geico so I don’t think I would try it with them.

Correct- it is State Farm.

My former boss had the same thing happen, twins totaled 2cars a week in between. They paid both … then got dropped

They would have to have a car in their name and establish residency in whatever state. License plate state should match DL state.

No absolutely not. If you do not list a resident in your home they are excluded from coverage, no if ands or buts. Otherwise there would be no way for the company to assess and rate the risk properly. Technically you are also committing insurance fraud because you lied on your application.

If you insist differently get your agent to put it in wiring and post that letter here.

We'll all be waiting with baited breath....

State Farm put out a company wide announcement about these specific scenarios just last week. Starting in October the loophole will be closed. If you don't list them there won't be coverage. Don't risk it. No matter what your agent tells you, they're not the ones who pay the claims and (we) they have very very little say so when it comes time to make any payout decisions on the claims.

Five vehicles on the road. 1600$ a month. It’s robbery.
Just wanted to put that out there for young folks having kids.

I didn't have to add mine until she was actually licensed. The permit period was "free" and she was covered by virtue of being a household member.

This is accurate information. Went through the same. And it's not like the old days, you don't appoint a car to a driver anymore. It's just a listing of all cars and all drivers I believe.

It is criminal what Insurance and legislation allows. There is no data that drivers ed creates a better driver and it does nothing to lower your insurance. it is a total scam.

The insurance rates are created by fear mongering journalism. it is the same scam they run with home owners and "named storms"

Legislations says you have to have insurance. Insurance pays for the media budget through constant advertisement. daily news stories pushed out by the media reporting on the worst wrecks, Legislators react to emotional mother of teen, legislature responds with the "something must be done" - consumer gets robbed.

Wash, rinse , repeat.

I've often wondered about this.

If I giver permission to some random arse person to drive my vehicle, I'm covered.
but I don't have to actually put random arse person on my policy.

so why should I be required to put my teenaged son on my policy for my truck when I have zero intentions of ever letting that crazy bastard drive my truck?

Man I don’t care if you believe me or not. Read my post. My youngest was off my insurance 10 years ago. It worked for us. Calling me a liar doesn’t erase that. Past that IDGAF what you say.

if you have two children sharing a car and one is a girl, make sure she is listed at the primary driver and not the son. That saved us some cash.

I ain't calling you a liar dude. Seriously. But something is way off here. I guarantee that ain't the law. If you don 't disclose all drivers it's impossible for them to rate the risk and set a proper premium, right?

Otherwise no one with a lick of sense would say they have a 16 year old male driving a Corvette.

Ill find a case and post it here. Are you in Louisiana?

I am. And apparently State Farm just sent out a letter to its’ policy holders stating that they would no longer cover drivers in a household who are not listed . So ten years ago this must not have been the case. As a matter of fact I can state without a doubt that it wasn’t, because it’s what we did. As to insurance fraud? I never lied when asked if there were any new drivers in my household. Never had to, because I was never asked the question.
