I seem to have understood that pharmacies don't typically answer whether they're stocked or not. I'm not a prescribed patient/user, so I don't know. But this classmate of mine has a problem finding it frequently and says she just brings her script in from pharmacy to pharmacy to see if they have it.

If you're "in the system," they'll tell you. Occasionally if the CVS by my house is short on Vyvanse (can't do partial fills on Sch II apparently), I can call other locations and ask. They ask for my name and DOB before they answer yes or no. Same with Walgreens. Probably couldn't get away with calling some local pharmacy who doesn't know me, though.

Until early 2012, Soma was not listed as a Controlled Substance. If a drug isn't controlled, it's considered a "Legend" drug and the consequences for possession would be the same as if you'd been caught with your grandmother's diabetes meds or something; you'd be either ticketed or possibly arrested for a misdemeanor if the cop decided to be a dick.

You're spot on about women and Somas, I'd say >80% of Soma abusers are female.

On the original topic, just happened to see this High Times article... it's pretty spot on IMHO and explains the annual limits the gov't puts on amphetamine production, hence the shortage.

[quote]are you kidding me?? ;( YOU may have gotten off of it without any withdrawals or something but that doesn't mean it isn't addictive... I can almost one quadrillion prescient guarantee that you didn't just quit taking it without switching to something else or having some other kind of meds that would have hid the withdraw
The people that get addicted to ADD meds are those that dont actually have ADD. But those that truly have it, can not take the medicine and not have "withdrawl symptoms" or need something else.
Ive never done a drug in my life and I have a prescription for Adderall XR 20mg. If I dont get my prescription filled in time I can go for however long until I get it filled and not "have to use something else to get me by". Now sure my appetite increases but within a dayor two its back to normal. My wife says Im a little more outgoing than I already am but there have never been any negative effects for me not taking my medicine.
Is ADD over prescribed? Hell yes it is. Its the reason my parents never had me tested as a kid(we are talking mid 80's/early 90's) when only the overly hyper or "bad kids" took ritalin. There wasnt as much medical research available then like there is now. My mom was a teacher, and it wasnt until she was required to start going to a conference every year which taught teachers how to spot the signs of add in children that she really understood that I had always had ADD. I went to the dr at 18yo and quickly found out I had it. Once I was able to find a medication that felt ok, it has helped tremendously. I take the extended release adderall though.
All in all, the people who "rely" on add meds to get through their day dont have add in my opinion. Those are the people that have become addicted. But for those that do truly have it, it can be a tremendous help to stay on task and not lose interest in things so quickly.

But I have dated a girl that needed it but denied needing it and was a different person when not having it and a wired zombie when she did have it... I won't date that again, but I ain't got shite against it if that is the way someone likes to live....
Its pretty obvious that she either didnt actually have ADD and became addicted to whatever she was taking or she had ADD and was over medicated. It took a few different medications and dosages before I was prescribed the extended release adderall and felt totally normal. I even felt like shite on regular adderall. Its all about what works for your body.
Acting like everyone who takes add meds will become a zombie like your multiple addict friends youve mentioned is irresponsible on your part.

I had those symptoms through school and took adderall, but when I graduated I did not want to rely on prescription drugs to do my job. Therefore I weened off of it and learned how to focus and do my job without using them. Its not that hard you just have to grow up.

Of course it's addictive. It's amphetamine. Ever heard of meth-amphetamine. You just might not have the physical predisposition for addiction.

Addiction isn't dependent on abuse. Taking any medication for an extended period of time causes a change in brain chemistry, it isn't preventable by taking it as prescribed.

Carisoprodol (Soma) is not physically addictive and is not very psychologically addictive either. The problem with it is that tolerance can be built to ridiculous levels and the fact that most people use it to potentiate the effects of opiates. Also, some people metabolize it differently than others, which is probably why women are so much more likely to get bad off on them.
The reason Somas were so prevalent a few years ago was because they weren't listed as a controlled substance, that didn't happen until early '12 when they were listed as a CIV. Before that they were considered just a prescription, or legend, drug and the consequences of possession could be as little as a summons.
Most doctors are extremely hesitant to prescribe Soma nowadays because of the celebrity deaths associated with it recently and the high interaction potential it has with opiates and benzos. Pretty much only pain management doctors are writing Somas now, the regular primary care docs will only write Flexeril, etc.
