I always schedule the first appointment in the morning.

I've tried that (PCP) and the snot nosed walk-ins were always lined up at the door waiting for it to open. That's when all the sick line breakers show up. Go to a urgent care you nasty frick, I've got an appointment for my six month check, not get your damn germs bitch!!!

I've always had long waits at the Dr.'s office until a couple of years ago. I never have more than a 10 minute wait or so with my PCP. I had an ortho surgery awhile back, and had at least 4 appointments with them and never had to wait long at all with them either. Maybe I've just been lucky.

15 minutes and I inquire about the wait. 30 minutes and I inform them that I am leaving.

That's eventually going to bite you in the arse big time if you are pulling that with a subspecialty clinic.

Decent chance they'll let you walk out without a second thought and leave the ball in your court to call back and reschedule.

i raised holy hell with them once when they scheduled me for 11am and at 12:30 i demanded to know what the hold up is, the girl, not thinking apparently, said the doctor doesnt get in until 1pm she said he likes to have a full waiting room when he gets there so he can maximize his time the best

now i make sure i never get any apt before 1pm and rarely wait more then 30 minutes now. if you ask the right questions you can figure out how to save yourself some time.

2 hours from wait to finish.

I actually hate cattle call at court house even more. Both are simple examples of doctor/judge valuing his/her time and live much much more than yours.

i have simple solution to both. let me wait in my damn car or outside or something. Then beep me when you are ready for me just like outback etc. There has to be an app or something that can do this. We can listen to book on tape listen to sirius radio podcast etc. which would at least be something

I will say that I've been going to a new doctor for the past few years and they are pretty punctual. They have a sign to let them know if you are waiting longer than 15 minutes.

Try scheduling an early appointment if you don't want to change doctors. Like one of the first appointment slots in the morning. Maybe the won't be too behind at that time.

I feel like the appointment time should work both ways.

But it's usually, show up 10 or 15 minutes early, sign in, appointment time comes and goes, a half an hour or so later, they call you back, sit in another room for 20 or 30 minutes, and then get your 30 seconds or so with the doctor.

I always wondered how they can be so behind when they're usually only with a patient for a couple of minutes, if that.

Mine leaves me sitting in the waiting room for 20mins then in the room for another 40. Then has the nerve to ask me why my blood pressure is so high. I told her the longer you make me sit around waiting the higher it's going to get. Then she wants to know why I didn't come to the office before whatever got this bad. Because I don't have half a day to waste sitting around waiting.

If 15 minutes is make or break for you, your issue wasn't a big deal to begin with.

My PCP is usually 30 - 45 minutes behind schedule.
But then I get to see Mallory and I’m all better.

Funny this thread shows up today. My 2 year old spiked a fever last night, along with green snot and ear tugging. I call right at 8am. Get appt for 1015, but have to be there at least an hour before for covid and flu test. I get that at 856am. Then, since I had some time to waste, we went to the grocery store, etc. showed back up at 957. We can’t just walk in. I called them to let them know I was in the parking lot and have them tell me what room to go to. They said there were no rooms open and they’d call me when one became available.

They called at fricking 1111am. Sitting in a car with a sick, stir crazy 2 year old for almost an hour and a half was enough for me to go in there with my arse on fire.

Time to look into concierge medicine

I started using a scaled down version of concierge for my primary care several years ago. I couldn’t be happier.

However, it is a shock to the system the couple of times I’ve had to see a specialist for something. I’m used to sitting in a room with my doctor within 5 minutes of walking into his office.

Spending 2-3 hours to spend 10 minutes with another doctor isn’t something I’m used to doing.

Thankfully my kid’s pediatrician is really good at managing their appointments. I’ve heard nightmare stories, but they rarely have to wait more than 15-30 minutes before they are in a room with a doctor.

Had an mri scheduled this am where my wife works and she cancelled it because I was not 30 min early. I was going to be there only10-15 minutes early. My appt was for 10:30 not 10:00, they called me a few days ago, no one ever told me to arrive 30 min early. And I’m not sitting in a chair for 30-60 minutes or more while waiting on prior person to get off mri table

You need to give her hell when she gets home. Cancelling her own husbands procedure because you were 15 minutes early instead of 30 minutes early is asinine.
