Could one answer with "Are you talking about _________?" when they buzz in? It's in the form of a question.

Just curious.

No, because that would be a yes or no question.

No. The question cannot be phrased in the second person. The contestant is responding to the clue, not Alex reading the clue. So second person phrasing wouldn't make sense. Your question is dumb and you should feel dumb.

The question has to be phrased in a way that the answer would be the answer given.

Try it in the first round. It doesn't count against you until Double Jeopardy, you just get a warning

Can you Jewify a response? I mean when you raise your voice in stressing the last word, as in "I should tell you?"

Trebek: "This city is the home of major league baseball's White Sox"

Me: "Chicago, Illinois?"

It's still a question, even if it's not phrased like one

If you say no, you're anti-semitic

I would hope Alex's response would be something like this...

No (yeah I'm anti-Semitic, big deal) because when you raise the inflection of your voice like that, you're implying "either or". It's still a yes/no question and would not result in a question that would be correctly answered by the clue.

I never cared about the whole making it a question thing. It's a quiz show to me, the form is really unimportant

Yea it's kind of pointless the whole phrase it as a question thing. It adds nothing to the show.

The "questions" are phrased as statements, so it makes sense.

They do it just to be quirky. It's a marketing thing, something to remember them by.

It's high time Jeopardy dropped that absurd "answer in the form of a question" gimmick. It never made much sense from the get-go because the clues, which are presumed to be the answers to those questions, would NOT be satisfactory answers to those questions if someone asked them of you.

For example, suppose the clue were "it's black and white and read all over"... a contestant would get credit by responding "what is a newspaper?" But if a kid in a classroom were asked to define a newspaper he'd get zero credit with answering "it's black and white and read all over."

They would be satisfactory in describing the object in the question. The clue isn't designed to be a definitive answer to the question but it is designed to only yield one definitive question.

If you asked "what is Asia?"

And I said "it's the largest continent."

Then yeah there are other answers I could have given you but only one question that would make sense for that answer.
