But years of solitary will mentally destroy a human.
Just watched a mini-series about 17 year old (Kalief Browder) who was accused of stealing a backpack in NY and was held in Riker's Island for 3 years without a trial. Most of his time illegal incarceration was in solitary. Charges were eventually dropped and he was released. Kid was never the same and committed suicide at home while his mother was there.

Heck no, look at the Nordic countries. They actually try to rehab their prisoners.
But what is the level of crime, especially violent crime?

I don't see how he pulled it off. Seems like the window wouldn't be high enough and the wall underneath the window would give the body leverage to resist.

Didn't want to be a wide receiver the rest of his life.

You'd probably hang yourself by your jorts.

Hernandez apparently took his own life on the day many of his former teammates will be honored at the White House for winning Super Bowl 51.
Justice served.

SIAP. Came across this earlier.
"According to ESPN's Roger Cossack, Aaron Hernandez's legal team can file a motion to vacate his conviction for the murder of Lloyd. Martin W. Healy, the chief legal counsel to the Massachusetts Bar Association, told The Boston Globe that the legal rule is called "abatement ab initio." Healy says upon a person's death, if they have not exhausted their legal appeals, their case reverts to its status at the beginning -- it is as if the trial and conviction never happened."

He had it all and he leaves behind an innocent wife and child
The baby is innocent, but his wife is not innocent at all. She got rid of evidence (it's alleged she got rid of the murder weapon and other items in the big garbage bag she drove off with on camera) and was given immunity before testifying. She allegedly lied to the grand jury like 29 times to cover up for her man who killed her SISTER'S boyfriend. She's a THUG.

Dude, he never said he thought prison should be more humane. Some of yall just read crap that isn't there. It's called "reading comprehension". Try it.

Robin Williams used a belt wedged into the frame of a door to hang himself. It's not much higher than a window. It can done if you just lean forward and resist the bodies natural instincts to lean back I guess.

you choke yourself until you pass out from lack of oxygen and if your bodyweight moves forward, you cut off the carotid artery entirely and die

I don't feel bad for Hernandez but there's a lot of people that got caught up in the prison industrial complex small things and rather than trying to make them into functional members of society we make them worse.
As an adult, no one is responsible for you being a functional member of society or not. It's every individuals decision on whether they want to be a dumbass criminal, or a functioning member of our society that abides by the law.
and don't compare the US to Norway for anything crime related.
The murder rate in the US in something stupid like 500x's higher than Norway. there isn't a culture that celebrates violent crimes like in the US in Norway. There's also no people of African or Mexican descent in Norway.
