A third party agency now keeps tracks of stuff you return to stores

A man's $8 return is rejected and he wants to know why. It turns out there's a third party that tells the store whether to accept returns -- a third party that labels some shoppers return-a-holics.

My mother isn't going to be happy about this.

Did he have a receipt? I scanned the article, but didn’t see it clarified. I can understand this for too many returns without receipts.

Good, the small percentage who take advantage of return policies ruin it for the rest of us.

I dealt with serial returners when I was in retail, but that was before eBay turned it into a cottage industry.
Wal*Mart and Best Buy had those ridiculously lax return policies. People were robbing them blind.

An Asian guy calling a news station because he couldn't return something for $8 in the bay area?
That's like half an hour of min wage work out there. Come on dong hung. Stop being so cheap.

My wife is a return-a-aholic and it drives me nuts. I bet she is going to end up black listed.

Good. That's awesome. Returnaholics drive prices up.

I am not a return-a-holic but..... I never give them my name or correct phone number. It's none of their damn business. Also, all cash transactions and do have receipts.

Off topic but the craziest attempted return I've seen was an air mattress at Walmart. The dude let his guest sleep on it then tried to return it after. Apparently this happens a lot because they had a framed sign behind customer service that said air mattresses couldn't be returned after 2 days

I don't know about Best Buy but Wal Mart's policy is crazy. Several months ago I returned something to Wal Mart and I noticed their policy posted behind the counter. I had heard about it but never noticed it posted. I rarely return anything, maybe once a year. They take returns up to 90 days without a receipt. How does that even work? So if I have a receipt can I return something a year later? Crazy.

Didn't shitty people ruin REI's return policy?
I can't believe they haven't ruined LL Bean's yet.

Best Buy can track all your purchases even without receipts if you used their rewards program and the article mentions the guy was an "Elite Plus" member of their rewards program. I've returned stuff to Best Buy without the receipt and they just pulled up the purchase by using the phone number on my rewards account.
