Please see my comment above. There's a positive way to criticize, and there's a negative way. Our goal should be - at least in my mind - doing our best to stay positive, whatever the situation. That in no way means being weak or being a pushover. I think of it like this: do I want to help alleviate a situation or make it worse? And please never forget that our actions affect ourselves as well as others.

You're free to do with your money as you wish. I this isn't a pissing contest regarding who's more generous. I am extremely generous with my blessings that I've been given. It's this specific poster that's the issue, and you and others have a soft spot in your heart because he's the lovable loser. There's nothing wrong with that, there's also nothing wrong with posters calling him particularly for what he is.

As I said before, I think what you did is admirable, it just doesn't solve anything

So…how is the daughter ungrateful? She was paying his rent, no?

Not sure, she was paying rent and he was handling "everything else".

I think coming on here and calling out your daughter is unnecessary. His intent in doing so is pretty clear.

Not necessarily. For example it is never a good thing to give a drug addict cash money. Period. No exceptions. It's more than just enabling. If you know that they are in active drug addiction you could potentially be pushing them to an early grave by giving them cash. You want to pay their rent, fine. You want to buy them clothes, fine. You want to buy them cigarettes or put fuel in their vehicle, fine. But never ever under any circumstance give a drug addict cash money. It is not a good thing. It's literally the worst thing you can do This is why I generally don't give money to panhandlers.

You are still enabling them. The money they don’t spend on rent, clothes, cigs, and fuel is now spent on more liquor/drugs.

Congrats. You played yourself.

He doesn't know that that's what he's doing. It may very well be, and past actions would make me not do it, but it's his call to make

People are sympathetic to the OP BECAUSE of the picture he's painted of his life on this site. It could be real or complete bullshite. I lean towards the latter, but If someone else wants to "lend" him rent money so be it. Pretending like it's not because he's made sure everyone knows his plight is disingenuous, call me an a-hole I don't give a shite.

Got it. You can delete it now. I’m in my oncologists waiting room right now so it may be a little while before I I can write you.

Can’t email you now. The email on my phone is screwed up and I don’t care enough to fix it. I’ll post here later when I get home to my PC.
