They were plenty vibrant in Iceland this February. This is a picture from my iPhone.....



And obviously they were much brighter.

This is true from my experiences. I lived in Alaska for 16 months and saw the lights several times and it's not like the pics. Maybe at certain times and places it's very bright and impressive like the pics, but not the ones I saw.

Depends, it can be very active or it can be stationary. Time lapse photography definitely messes up the perception though. If anything, the real time movement is even more eerie IMO

lot of variables, time of year, atmospheric conditions, etc., I've seen some absolutely spectacular views over the north Atlantic

my daughter was able to see that a couple of summers ago, she has some great pics, of the crossing
