Sort of. It's more complicated than that, but basically right.

All "Aryans" (Indo-Europeans) originated in Western Russia about 6,000 years ago. Archaeologists call them the "Yamnaya" or "Steppe people." DNA studies have been done on ancient skeletons in Europe and we know these people began filtering into Europe during the late neolithic and early bronze age (about 4,000 BC). They virtually replaced native European men in large areas of northern and central Europe and married native women. The Corded Ware Culture was the result of this mingling. DNA studies show the Corded Ware people were about 70% Yamnaya and 30% native European. The Corded Ware people were known for their distinctive battle axes and their center seemed to be Germany and Poland.

From there, we know some of the Corded Ware derived people actually left Europe and went back out into the Steppes, then south into central Asia where the Andronovo culture was formed. This is where it is believed they invented the world's first horse drawn chariot in about 2,000 BC.

However, there were already other IE peoples living in central Asia at that time. The Afanasevo culture had already made it to Mongolia and the Chinese border as early as 3500 BC. No one knows why they were there, but it's likely they were doing trade deals with China. The Chinese loved jade and it is believed these white men mined Jade in exchange for silk.

India wasn't invaded until the end of the IVC (Indus Valley Civilization). The Indo-Aryans came in about 1500 B.C. which is much more recent. They brought Sanskrit with them and wrote the Rig Vedas. DNA studies have been done on Indians and it has shown that the priestly castes (like Brahmins) have a lot of European heritage (like haplogroup R1a).
