HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A 1-year-old girl is dead after she was accidentally left in a hot car all day, investigators say.
Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office were called to 8100 Barnes Ridge Lane in the Alief area in southwest Harris County Thursday night.
Investigators said the family told them a mother of three young children – ages five, three and one – took the two older children to a nearby day care to drop them off.
For some reason, the 1-year-old was left in her seat.
Deputies said the mother returned home and it wasn’t until she went to pick up the other two children Thursday afternoon that she realized that the youngest child was never even dropped off.
A day care worker went with the mother back to their home where the little girl was found in the back seat of the car.
Deputies said her body was on the floorboard. She was pronounced dead on the scene Thursday night.
Deputies told ABC13 the district attorney’s office will determine if the mother will face charges immediately or if the case will go to a grand jury.

Didn't need to read this. Arrest the parent(s) and let them rot.

This sounds suspicious.

I was discussing another hot car incident with an old dude and he told me he would take his left shoe off whenever he had his kid in the car and put it in the backseat with them.
Even if you get out of the car, you’re going to notice your left shoe missing.

Especially if you’re spending the day at home.

I'm not a parent, but those I know who are parents say it's impossible they'd ever forget their kids in a car in this manner.

I can't handle these stories

I really hate that these threads are posted.
For you assholes who will say don’t read it, its easy not to read the actual thread. I didn’t. But hard to miss the title when it pops up as new.

I have no idea how this happens so often especially getting into a routine of dropping your kids off certain places. I used to bring both of my children to my mother in laws house every day and sometimes the days my wife would stay home with them I would drive across town in the morning to their house to drop them off or drive all the way over there when I didn't need to pick them up after work. Certain things become mechanical after a while.

Hate stories like this. When living in Dallas, I read accounts from South Oak Cliff to Southlake doing this and to a person they were heartbroken.

Same
As fricked up as it was, when the Atlanta story fell apart and turned into murder, it almost put my mind at ease. I have an easier time grasping pure evil than the type of catastrophic mental lapse that could lead to these incidents.

so the mother brought her three kids to daycare, knowingly dropped off only 2, then returned home and left her youngest in the car all day while she sat inside? Yeah, something seems off

I was a little worried about it when we had our first boy. I really don't understand how it happens after driving my kids around for several years

I kind of did it once but was aware from minute one. My squid was 8 months old and we went to a dry cleaner. She was asleep and I ran in w suv running, air on in June. Locked her in w keys tighter than Dicks hat band. Waited 45 mins for my wife to arrive w the extra fob to open. Just stood there watching that baby snore. Awful feeling.

Poor little thing probably fought her arse off to get out of the car seat to try to save herself

These stories are always so heartbreaking. Couldn’t imagine the pain when you realize what happened.

This is something I will never understand. How the hell do you forget a child in the car?
Anytime I was asked to drive someone's kids somewhere. Even with them being old enough to get out on their own, etc.. I still would always glance in the rear view mirror just to keep an eye on things,
It just blows my mind that a parent would forget about a child in the car.
The only thing I can think of is that they are talking on the phone and just simply not paying attention to anything else. That poor child suffered before passing away. Its sick to even think about.
