I know I can switch bands out, I just put that in there because not all watches look right with a leather band.

Can I get a Breitling for that? Omega? Happy going used but good condition.

It’s a gift for someone, not for me.

I like Hamiltons around that price point. They may be a little cheaper than $1,200. Jazzmaster or something similar

Purely on aesthetics. I know nothing the the quality of movement. Talk to Obtuse on that.

Nothing says “I love you dad”, who is a big watch guy, like a fricking Timex.

This place just can’t help itself.

Give him a Timex and ~$1,150 so he can actually pick out what he wants. If he's "a big watch guy" and you're on here asking for advice then you'll probably pick out something he won't like.

Why? It's good advice. Unless you know for a fact he wants an exact watch that meets your criteria, it's an necessary gamble to drop that kind of cash on a gift. Yes, I know this is the OT and that's pocket change. But still.

There is Longines Heritage 1845 on Crown & Caliber for like $1300 with the box but no papers.

Hamilton, Seiko or Tissot at that price. Stowas are cool, but I wouldn't consider a fleiger a dress watch.

I think he’d love some Tissots I was looking at that.

ETA:

He’s like the look. Trying to go down Reddit holes to see if they’re good, but it’s a bit murky.

Big facts. I would give him cash to help him get the watch he wants. I would bet that I would be unhappy with any watch I was randomly given.

Big facts. My dad would absolutely hate that. He much prefers we pick things out for each other. Our family has never done cash gifts for anything. He will love a watch I get him, I know his style very well as it’s the same as mine, and I want it to be a surprise with an inscription.

And I’m not asking for advice on how to handle the gifting process. Simple watch suggestions would suffice.

Love my Serica. I currently have it on the band pictured, but it came with a brown leather strap and a nato strap. It’s not technically a dress watch, but I don’t find it looks out of place with a suit at all. It is a mechanical movement and I believe is only 37 or 38mm, so some may find it small. I think it’s just right, personally.

Edit: price is $650

Tissot uses the same movements all the Swiss companies other than Rolex do, just check the model you like and see what is under the hood.

BTW you should be way under your target on a Powermatic 80 if you look around a bit.

What about a Junghans Max Bill or a vintage Omega Geneve? Not sure if you wanted to go new or if pre-owned was ok.
