Has anyone linked the success rate of the flu vaccination, as compared to not getting one?
Seems like the thread is just a bunch of people telling everyone they are idiots if they don't get one.

I'm on my phone but I remember it being around 60% effective last year.

As in, 40% of people who got the shot, also got the flu? Sounds shitty. Which strands are included in the annual shots? The ones most people got the previous year(s)? How many flu strands are there in a flu shot?

i work at a hospital myself, in admin part of one. In our administration suite there is probably 25-30 people. about 15 of them got the flu shot. Out of those 15 about 8-9 of them had full blown flu within 2 weeks, along with family members that got the flu shot. Out of those that didnt get the shot.... ZERO has had the flu

Even if you get the flu, the vaccine makes it less severe. That being said, I didn't get the shot. I have a severe needle phobia.

The shot actually doesn't hurt
Tetanus....that fricker hurts
Menactra(one for meningitis)....HURTS
Flushot.....didn't even feel it
And I had no soreness or fever or an symptoms after getting it. I've had minor aches in previous years but the last 2 none whatsoever.

Is a person who didn't get the shot or the flu considered in any statistics?

The question is: Do vaccine's work in boosting your immune system against specific antigens?
We know the answer to that. It's basic immunology. We've known it for hundreds of years.
Trying to obtain data from randomized studies on a population from elderly compromised immune systems to healthy 20 year olds is probably difficult, especially when the vaccine misses the particular strain some years.
But we know how vaccines work. If the vaccine is a match, you will have protection to varying degrees depending on your age, health, etc. But you will have protection. Again, it's science.

Are there inherent risks with getting the shot? Outside of it being ineffective.
How many strands are in the shot? How many known strands of the flu exist?

My wife and I have never had the flu/gotten the shot and never really paid it any mind for that reason. However, my 2 year old just got over it and it was probably the worst 9 days of my life. It's definitely something I will consider in the years ahead.

it is not too late to get your flu shot
My wife, who works at a retail store, came down with the flu yesterday and she's really hurting. She can't drink a sip of liquid to take medicine without throwing up.
Her doctor says that this year's flu strain is remarkably bad.
I usually skip getting a flu shot but at the doctor's advice I ran out and got immunized this morning.
