They asked for her social media credentials - not login/password but links to her profile pages (no pics - she's not a hoe anyways)

Is this even legal to ask during a job interview?

Why not just say you don't have any social media presence? Then if they show you a profile, say someone must have hijacked your name.

This is pretty standard I feel like nowadays especially if you’re in a PR/media field.

Of course it is, why wouldn’t it be? It’s borderline negligence to not ask for it these days.

They want to make sure they aren't hiring some party animal or some other sort of "freak."

Not uncommon these days. If it's public, they want to look at it.

Not uncommon. I would share LinkedIn and leave it at that.

I don’t think it’s weird. If you act like a lunatic on Twitter you are a liability for that company

This.

Especially if the job is public facing.

Yes...

Employers have Facebook stalked candidates for years.

They've already searched your friend's name and found her profiles. She can give them the links. If it's private then they can't see much anyway. I imagine it's becoming more of a standard than an odd request.

Sounds like good due diligence by the company.

I had an employer ask for mine before. My FB page is locked up tighter than a nun's twat though.

Worst was when my last employer tried to get me to go on FB and share our company page to help increase business.

Many companies ask for this. Not uncommon at all.

I thought this was SOP these days.the last two job interviews I've been on (2010 and 2013) both asked me and did a check of my social media.

Nothing special there so, it's not a big deal. I'll never understand these people that think the stupid shite they post online won't come back to bite them one day.

Just another reason I don't have a Facebook. I have a Twitter under a bogus name that I use to follow news and sports.
