Anyways, my point is getting lost. It's that artists who make popular music/films/television tend to have more staying power posthumously because people continuously enjoy their work.
I get what you are saying but I don’t think Lennon qualifies for that. All his greatest work was well in his past by his death.
Cobain, or Hendrix are better examples of people’s who’s untimely death solidified a legacy that carries them into the future. We feel robbed of their prime and get romantic about what could have been.
The negative people will bring up how Lennon is a wife beater and Cobain was junkie dead beat dad

In the wake of the coverage commemorating John Lennon's passing 40 years ago, name the one person living today who's death will garner the most headlines and touch the most people.
What if John Lennon's death didn't touch us or resonate with us?

Elton John mocked Imagine and wrote what Lennon was all about.

The Queen is old so no shock there. William or Kate would be huge though.

Honestly "celebrity" death do not phase me. I may say it is a shame they are gone, but I do not give much thought to them.

He doesn't appear to be particularly healthy lately
What makes you say that? A friend saw him at Reds last year and said he was still in really good shape. Shaq would be one of the few celebrities I'd actually be really sad if I found out died.
I think the fact that Lennon was murdered makes his death resonate more.

in all seriousness, Rush Limbaugh will be remembered for years as one of our greatest american patriots for shining the light of day on the evil seditious people trying to ruin this country on both sides of the political spectrum

What about the other half of the greatest songwriting duo in the history of rock music?
