Depends on your definition of what bringing something "back" is. They sequenced dire wolf DNA, identified its closest living relative, the gray wolf, and started with that as a base. Then they modified the genes with the differences to make it a dire wolf.

That being said, I think the thoughts they have of eventually reintroducing genetically-modified animals to nature is dangerous, at best. They say they'll do all this research, but they're not God. They can't predict all the butterfly effect outcomes of doing it.

I'm curious how a company such as that can pay their scientists if they have not produced a sellable product.
