We still have men and women alive today who walked and talked with veterans of the American Civil War - who themselves walked and talked with veterans of the Revolutionary War in their youths.

And we still have a few people from World War II walking this earth.

And in 60-70 years we'll all be survivors of the camps where they sent all the white Christian males.

What’s more than that;

President John Tyler, US President in the 1840’s has a grandchild that is still alive today.

I remember Joe Rogan saying one time that the country is only 3 generations old or something along those lines. He absolutely right

Someone used one of those apps or websites online to colorize the photo. For some reason those are notorious for leaving limbs gray.

Heres a link to that reunion. Homevideo of a young boy now turned old man that was there. I'm sure there are a few people who are over 90 years old have run into a civil war veteran at one point.

its possible to be only one generation removed from someone who knew a person who actually fought in the civil war, but someone would have to be on extreme side. like they fought at an absurdly young age and lived longer than average

i would assume civil war vets in the 30s are like ww2 vets now. they exist, but really small in numbers

You don't think it likely that an 18-year-old American in 1943 would enlist or get drafted into the largest and most widespread military conflict in world history? That's what my grandfather did. He graduated high school in June 1943 and immediately enlisted. He saw combat in the Pacific in 1944 and 1945.

Also...you don't need to see combat to be considered a veteran. If he enlisted before September 2, 1945, he would be considered a veteran of the Second World War.

No. I think that boy is 10 years old. Let’s say for argument ske he was 18 by the time the was ended in 1945. About 1/3 of the eligible American men served in WWII. And that’s assuming that boy even went on to become eligible for service. Certainly the first few years of war he would not have been - which would drive that percentage much lower than 33%.

So I’d say possible but not “very likely”

Well, you'd be wrong because to be a Boy Scout in the 1930s you had to be at least 12 years of age. When I was a Boy Scout the age requirement was 11 or "upon completion of the fifth grade." I believe you can be a 10-year-old Boy Scout now but that is a recent development.
