A black hotel guest in New Orleans sees manager's question as racist and lodges complaint

Nola
Alexis, an active Grambling alumnus and native of St. John the Baptist Parish, said he was at the Residence Inn by Marriott on St. Joseph Street on Nov. 13. It was cold that morning, and he was wearing his favorite Grambling hoodie.
As he dug into his breakfast, he looked up and saw a white manager looking at him. That scrutiny itself “wasn’t unusual for me, as a black man,” said Alexis, who brushed it off.
A few minutes later, the general manager walked toward Alexis. Five feet away, he turned to an elderly white couple sitting at a table. “How’s your breakfast? How was your room?” he asked them.
According to Alexis, the manager’s smile evaporated when he asked Alexis if he was a guest.
Alexis walked to the front desk to confirm that he was a guest and a member of the hotel's loyalty program, then went back to his room and tweeted and emailed every Marriott executive he could find online.

Alexis molested me as a child. I hope he burns in hell.

They can’t help but feel like the world is out to get them. I stayed in a Embassy Suite about a month ago great breakfast little lady comes around ask how many in the party and what room. At no point did I think geez she must be asking me because of the color of my skin.

Shouldn’t have been wearing a fricking hoodie.

I ate in New Orleans this weekend and the restaurant included an 18% tip even though we weren't a big enough party to warrant that according to their written policy. I guess I could have made a stink, because it sure might have been a race issue.
But ultimately they only screwed themselves out of a few dollars with that decision, so frick 'em. If I started calling people every time I experienced racism I wouldn't have much time or energy left for anything else.

I have a better chance of Margot Robbie sitting on my face than this being how it actually played out.
Dud probably had a common annoyance that everyone has at cheap hotels then decides to milk it with his black privilege.

I understand why restaurants do this.

They screw their servers in my opinion. I'm usually good for 20-25% if I get decent service. Auto grat me, and I'm rolling out with the 18.

In my experience this is usually because they are trying to get you to join if you aren't.

Marriott will cave and give him whatever he wants. It’s how the game is played now.
