That is way more than a "bit" of a victory.

Congrats to her!

And for those bashing downvoters, about 1/10 times when i'm on my phone using desktop version my fat thumbs hit downvote on accident. I'm sure thats what happened

Great story! Congratulations! I had many friends in high school that struggled to reach a 20.

I love reading posts like yours. I am in awe of people who overcome challenges.

Your daughter should be as proud of her accomplishment as you. I am sure that she understands and appreciates the fact that her success is due not only to her hard work but also the support of a loving family.

Congratulations to your daughter and your entire family.

Nice job all around.

But I have a questions concerning the quotes below, as I do not know much concerning the education of those with autism.

quote:

truggled through Kindergarten and the first 5 years of school
quote:

She has had no accommodations for autism since 6th grade. She earned this on her own. Regular classes with no help. She has worked hard to get to this point.

Did she get to a point where it wasn't as much of as struggle by 6th grade for her to get certain accommodations and assistance? Did removing the accommodations cause her to blossom as a student?

My son'll be in 6th next year and all of his educators and really everyone in his life has chosen to ignore his spectrum disorders...so unlike your girl nothing has been done to this point.

They wanted to hold him back in pre-k 4, and did hold him back in kindergarten...but the plan has always been HE'LL OUTGROW THIS. YOU DON'T WANT TO LABEL HIM WITH A DISORDER. fricking idiots, I just shake my head at everyone. Instead of doing something to address his processing disorder we're all just going to ignore it. Brilliant.

So, when they come to me and say he needs meds to stop him from disrupting class I get to laugh and say he'll outgrow it.
