I would be willing to forfeit everything that’s already been taken from me if I were allowed to opt out of SS today.

Sounds like you're wish casting yourself into Xenniel status actually.

Xennials (often misspelled as Xenniel) are a micro-generation bridging Generation X and Millennials.

Key Details

• Birth Years: Typically defined as people born between 1977 and 1985 (roughly 1977–1983 in some definitions).

Don’t buy into Boomer propaganda: X’ers are lame; Millennials are based

Retiring at 49 at the end of the month. Been paying SS since I was 16. I won’t need it, but planning on using it to buy a nice lake house when I turn 65.

The point is a "big chunk" of people don't enter the work force when they are sophomores in high school.

Every single boomer on this board started manual labor at 12, though. Ask them.

My personal favorite part of that bit is when they whine about "only" making something like $1.50 an hour, not realizing that adjusted for inflation, that comes out to roughly double the current minimum wage

Boomers are in it, therefore my post hit its intended target.

You're welcome.

You should take your anger you send towards boomers and point that at something more productive.

Me and my employers have put in over hundred K so far (with about 15 more years to go). If I don't get my SS when I hit that target age they might as well just shut it all down. Either that or give me some land or a plane, something to get some of that money back..
Poor mentality.

You should hide your anger at my boomer needling better to avoid looking like a whiny old fart.

Most of this generation have less than $10k saved for retirement which is just sad. I have that in my 401k alone, plus what i put away in my own investments like SCHD. I do not plan on being dependent on government income when I'm ready to stop working in 20 years. Hell at my rate I'll be ready to quit in about 10.
Started working in 1996 under the table for my church's retreat camp - next summer i got my first w2 job at Taco Bell. Haven't been unemployed since.

Aside from Boomers (more of an ‘official’ census name), these generational names and dates have just been made up by marketers and are subjective. If you think you’re more of a Gen Xer then a millennial that’s fine, no one really cares.
