Sounds like this might be heat stroke. High fever plus 100 degree weather plus not in a hospital setting with trained medical personnel making decisions (although sending her home is looking like a bad decision in hindsight).
Regardless, with a large enough sample size, some healthy young people are going to die from anything. If you sent 1000 kids into the grocery store and told them to grab a jar of peanut butter and start eating, 999 kids would say "this is creamy and delicious" and the remaining kid would go into anaphylactic shock and die right there on aisle 7 flopping around like a fish....because they have a severe peanut allergy...because human beings are not factory assembled parts - we are like snowflakes and no two are the same.

Anytime a 9 year old died it’s a tragedy. We don’t need to play politics it’s a tragedy.
why are there never any stories run when a 9 year old dies of flu complications each year?

This story has been played out for many people. Just because you were not aware of any issues does not mean none existed.

So let me guess... now that school is upon us, a record number of kids and teens will contract China Flu.

We know the news is not what it should be. It’s like a middle school effort now.
But why call the kid overweight? Why try and deny COVID kills? Why blue it off? It’s a huge deal for that family.
I agree about the flu. If kids are dying ftom the flu it’s news. People need to know that. There’s no excuse for not reporting it.

It is not news. 600 kids a year die in the US from the Flu. Thousands are hospitalized every year. Death rate for flu in those under 14 is much higher than Covid 19. This is based off published data by the CDC and WHO.
According to the CDC website since Feb 1 out of 145k us covid deaths 33 were in people 0-14, 200 were in people 15-24. 150 people 0-14 have died from the flu over the same period and we have a flu vaccine.
Covid is much worse than the flu for obese, diabetics and those over 50.
If someone wants schools closed to save the children, they should want the schools closed every flu season.
Only valid argument for schools being closed is based in curbing potential community spread.
More kids will die from accidents because they are not being watched in places where schools are closed, than will die from catching covid at school in places where school is open.

Dude, she was 9... being overweight/obese is a risk factor because of the stress it puts on your body OVER TIME. As in longer than a fraction of 9 years.

I’m sorry but this virus isn’t causing people to drop dead in their tracks. This story is extremely misleading and an example of piss poor journalism

Any person under 65 who dies of this was either really fat or had comorbidities. Period. One case doesn’t change this.

State health department records show the child did not have close contact with anyone who recently had COVID-19.
At least one or more of these statements is a lie.

Oh damn, you're right! I totally forgot that as soon as you gain an ounce of extra adipose tissue, your organs just give up.
