I know people like to romanticize the old days, but that just seemed like a miserable way to live.

I don't know, I kind of like a nice bush these days

Imagine the level of flex to roll around in a car those days while everyone else is walking around trying to dodge the mountains of horse shite.

From the comments;

It would be really cool if someone would be able to figure out the exact locations where the photographer stood, and go and take new footage from these locations, and then make a video with this side by side.

Haberdasher would have been a lucrative trade. So many hats

That was really cool. The Flatiron Building shot was the biggest “woah” moment for me.

That actually seems really pleasant outside of the dress code. Nice and peaceful and no one dressed as buzz lightyear harassing you in front of the Times Square TGI Friday’s. New York is a hell hole now compared to that.

Nice look back in time at all those immigrants building our great nation. Looks a bit boring though. Everyone had the same style.

Friend,

Thank you for sharing that slice of life from the past. Some observations:

1. The man with one leg asking for alms received them from twice in a ten second shot from good men wearing straw boater hats, which Sam Meyer's the Hatter still carries.

2. Most people seem fit and no one dresses slovenly.

3. Look how clean Chinatown was in 2:30 range. How is that today that part of NY is so filthy?

4. Cars destroyed city life in so many ways. Even then, drivers were rude, impatient, cutting through walkers, making disruptive noise, polluting. Every city and suburb built since the advent of widespread automobile use has been ugly and hard to walk. The car has hurt our interaction with our neighbors and our health. As people turned to the car, they stopped walking. The car is largely responsible for #2.

Gratefully,
TulaneLSU
