Not sure how anyone can afford to build or remodel right now.

On the plus side, my neighborhood is starting to feel a little less like a construction zone. Teardowns were edging in towards us, and whole-home remodels had been going on like crazy for the last 5 years or so. Both have slowed down a little lately.

I used to buy about 85- 100 dollars worth annually for halloween haunted house. usually the pink ones etc I would typically just pile them on the curb or give them to our handyman to use on shooting houses etc. Thank god a few years back i starting keeping them drilling holes in them making it a kit essentially solely to save time. It would cost 1000 bucks now

Ummm....no. They are $6.98 today and that's only because lumber has dropped a little the past week. They too were well over $7 last week when I made this thread.

Nothing about the current market in any sector is basic econ considering we shut down supply chains for two years out of Covid fear.

No joke you may be cheaper buying a prefab like texas hunter or red neck than building it yourself out of treated lumber

That would be the cheapest 2x4x8 #2 in the country.

Are you sure you looked at the correct price tag? Was it their culled lumber they sell for deep discounts?

Because it is showing $6.98 on their site

ETA: And to your point about using yellow pine over purple studs what do you think the purple studs are?

I get inflation and price increases, what I don’t understand is 400% increase? 50% would have been $3 or so. That’s somewhat reasonable. Double is $4, ok demand and a major shortage.

Where the frick did $8 come from?

Supply demand 101
This goes for both the money supply and the materials supply.

It is basic economics. Did you only take home economics to learn how to bake a cake?

It’s also called fricking making a shite ton of money when you can. Let’s not act like there’s not a shite ton profit built in here because they can. I’m not out calling them scum bags because a lot of industries are doing it right now.

That is still economics. Companies are going to charge what they can get away with. That is capitalism and how markets function People are still wanting to buy homes, build offices, and remodel. Lots of people have taken some money off the table. Lots of boomers are retiring and fixing up their retirement home. Lots of genZ and millennials are old enough to be in the market to buy a home. shite a lot of people have made boatloads off crypto.

The demand is there and will be there for a while. The supply is not there and won't be there for another 2-3 years.

Homes are not exactly inelastic in their prices because people need a roof over their head. When there aren't enough roofs which will be a while prices will not normalize anytime soon
