Born in ‘68. Graduated from high school and started college in “86. I am nostalgic for this time. But I guess whatever “your decade” is may always seem to be the best. I certainly think the music holds up if talking about what was considered college radio/alternative. A day at the mall seeing a movie and wasting what little money we had playing Tron or centipede was just about perfect.

I was a kid in the 80s and HS and college in the 90s. Both were pretty solid decades. Not a bad draw in life.

I miss malls, skating rinks, record shops, arcades, Rock n Roll, and MTV when they actually played videos. I guess it’s like they say, “don’t cry cause it’s over, smile because it happened.”

You’re wrong about music in the 80’s. Music was much better in the late 60’s and the 70’s. MTV was behind the music of the 80’s and with music videos becoming the rage the music got too commercial sounding.

Everyone was proud to be an American, the U.S. dominated the world front, full bush, great frat scene and Budweiser still tasted good.

The period of 1965 to 1975 was the absolute best for rock music, sex and jobs.
Completely agree on music, it was an incredibly creative period. The disco crap was still a year or two away.
Sex - too young to really know but 74 and 75 I was in high school and nobody I knew was getting any.
Jobs - maybe so until 1973. But we didn't have squat compared to what people have these days. It's a much more affluent country now. Which goes to show that there are more important things than money.

The 1973 oil crisis, during which time Arab nations in OPEC banned oil exports to the U.S., created a massive shortage that led the price of oil to quadruple. Inflation doubled to 8.8% from 1972 to 1973, with unemployment reaching 9%, resulting in the stock market crash of 1973-74, which cut the market nearly in half.

You can make an argument for many decades but honestly the late 50s to the early 90s were peak American culture as far as economic might, freedom, music and film, cars, etc
The people who suffered through the Depression and WW2 really made it an awesome country post war but unfortunately not many left and the current generations are way too spoiled and think they must try to make things better by “doing something different” and are making it much worse

According to your graph, crime in the 90's fell dramatically. The 90's were simply amazing!!!
The peak of crime was 92/93 and that decrease still had crazy amounts of crime.
There is a reason why movies like Demolition Man thought the recent future would involve criminals literally owning large portions of cities.
The 00s are when things really started to change and you can see that optimism in culture (just look at the transition from dreary things like grunge and gangster rap to the pop and party rap of the late 90s through mid-00s).

Crime is a localized issue though so it depends on where you lived. It's higher now where I am than at any point. Newark having a high crime rate doesn't impact me.

I assume you are either saying Egyptian Lover was not on 8 track or 8 tracks were not part of the 80's. EL was popular from 83-86, according to the interwebz. 8 tracks began to be phased out in 83, but they were still available for a few more years at low end retail chains.
It all checks out.
I would say:
80's
Cassette tapes
Michael Jackson, Guns N Roses, Prince, and Metallica

I don't think the crime rate is higher, but the total # is higher. BR has had a huge population gain since the 90s

There was no decade like it. It was truly amazing to be a kid in the 80’s. It’s why all is 40+ year olds are so disillusioned by the current state of country. We lived in the 80’s.

BR has had a fairly flat population since 1980. The parish has had some growth but most of that is in the unincorporated areas, Zachary, Central etc, which aren't high crime areas as a whole.
