In a shocking incident, an 8-year-old boy, Zachariah Bannister, was critically injured by a gunshot wound to the head while out with his family. The family was delivering food for DoorDash and had taken a moment to enjoy Christmas lights when the tragedy struck. According to News 9, the Bannister family was making their way through a southwest Lawton neighborhood in Oklahoma on the night of December 10th. They paused occasionally so young Zachariah and his brother Waylon could take in the festive Christmas lights. What was meant to be a moment of joy and holiday spirit quickly turned into a harrowing ordeal.

As the family vehicle reversed to get a better view of the decorations, Zachariah’s Aunt Elias Conez recounts, the mother noticed something amiss and attempted to leave the area. It was then that gunfire erupted, with an estimated 15 to 30 rounds being fired at the car.

Kid has a blood clot in his skull. Family is hopeful meds will dissolve it. If not, more surgery coming.

The suspect, Jullian Phillips, was apprehended by the police, having no previous connection to the victims. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Kinda reads like the Mom saw a shady dude in a hoodie but they don't want to say she profiled him and rightfully freaked out

Is this not a fricking hate crime?

I bet this will not national headlines, nor will protests breakout.

… Zack not to long ago decided he wasn’t going to wait until tomorrow for the Dr’s and Nurses to do it, he was going to do it himself. He pulled out his intubation tube when nobody was in the room. I walked back in to find so many people running in and out of his room about gave me a heart attack. He is okay though, they said they are leaving it out for now, but they will me monitoring him just incase they have to put it back in. His famous first words after removing it was “I have to pee”. He got so aggregated he couldn’t talk he pulled that thing out himself. I am so happy, proud, and amazed by how far he has come in the past few days. I am so proud of my baby boy.

From another website:
quote:

According to court documents, he opened fire last week outside his home on SW 35th Street with that gunfire striking the 8-year-old.

Investigators say Phillips admitted to the shooting saying that earlier in the evening, someone had driven past his home and allegedly threatened his girlfriend.

He reportedly told police when he saw the car the 8-year-old was riding in drive past his home, then slowly reverse, he grabbed an AK rifle and fired twice at the vehicle.

He then dropped the rifle and ran inside.

Phillips is being held on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in late January.

southwest Lawton neighborhood

I’m guessing if you look at a crime map it shows southwest Lawton is a hot zone of murders, drive-by’s, and gang activity.

Where did the other 13-28 rounds come from if he only fired twice?

I'd have killed that mother fricker with my bare hands if I was his dad. One of us would've died that night - either me trying to kill him or him.
