An 8-year-old boy found a gun at a college baseball game in Tennessee and accidentally shot his mother while thinking that it was a toy, police say.
The incident happened at a game between Memphis and UT Martin on Tuesday when the boy found the unsecured weapon in an antique car that was on display at Millington USA Stadium in Millington, Tennessee.
The mother, who was not identified, was sent to a hospital in critical condition. She was later upgraded to stable condition, according to WHBQ in Memphis.
"The juvenile believed it was a toy gun,” Millington police chief Mark Dunbar told reporters. “He picked the gun up, pulled the trigger and accidentally shot his mother. It was an accident, pure and simple.”
Police identified the owner of the gun as 76-year-old Charles McFarland. According to Good Morning America, McFarland has been charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and no bond has been set as of yet.

Why was he allowed to play in a car that was on display?

I’m going to hell for this, but . . .
That momma gets a round.
Hope she pulls through.

Why would someone have a loaded gun on display? Why don't parents teach their kids that it's not OK to grab things that don't belong to you.

Not the first time someone shot a load into her.

Hope she likes antique cars.

That's not uncommon at all. At just about every fair/festival we go to that has cars on display, the owners are with the vehicles and let kids sit in the seats and touch stuff.

I doubt that's the case here.

What makes you think this?

You think the owner of the car was just sitting there smiling while he let kids crawl in his car and point the gun at people?
He should be charged with negligence, but the mother should be charged also for her kid.

You are right, its likely the mother taught her kid its ok to take other things without asking. No shot the 8 year old picked up what he thought was a toy without asking on his own accord

No. I think the dude was standing outside the car talking to people and letting kids sit in the car. This happens all the time. Almost every event we go to has collectors with very nice old or unique vehicles and almost all of the owners let kids get in them.
I think the dude probably didn't think about the gun being in the vehicle when he let the kid get in it, or he thought it was in a safe place.

Sorry you have brats.
It's obvious the mother wasn't paying attention to her kid.

Culturally, Millington is pretty far from Memphis. Millington is a small town north of Memphis, not a suburb of Memphis.

I've been to a lot of car shows, if this is the case then the guy is an idiot.
Most of the shows I've been to or had a car in people aren't allowed near the cars, but you always have someone that wants to climb over the barriers.
