I saw a pic of an apartment building the other day. It had just fallen over, like a giant just nudged it and it tipped over gently on its side. The foundation was only a concrete slab, no anchors or pilings, just a poured slab below ground level that they built a multi-level apartment building on top of.

I saw a video of a father and 2 sons being pulled from the rubble. They pulled the deceased older son & father and as they dug out the little toddler it started crying. Rescuers were absolutely ecstatic.

Death toll has surpassed 46,000 people. I expected high numbers, but I'm not sure I ever could imagined it would close in on 50k people.

Just awful.

The relative shift is around 3-4 meters

When something like this happens, do some people lose land and others gain land? Like survey markers are all screwed up now.

I have no clue. Wonder if they would resurvey it and try to shift everything back to square maybe?

It'll be well over 50k when it is all said and done. That's hard to wrap your mind around, but comparing it to the Hati earthquake, which was more than twice that, is almost impossible to comprehend.
