we shouldn't forget... the USS Indianapolis suffered its infamous sinking on its way back home after delivering the uranium for Little Boy to Tinian Island

one of those great "what ifs"... if that Japanese sub had found the Indy on its way to Tinian instead of on its way home

Indian troops fought for the British in North Africa,Italy, and China Burma India (CBI) theater of operations. At one time they had 2.5 million troops fighting the axis.

Not even close. The Russians peaked at around 21 million. Britian was largely a sea power and probably half or more of their armed forces came from the commonwealth nations like India,Canada, Australia and New Zealand and colonial troops plus the armed forces that got out of Europe and fought with the Brits like Poland etc.

fricking breath taking. And we are worried about a virus that 98 percent of people recover from. The blow back from pussy liberals if you did this now would be more devastating than this bomb.

That is a terrifying read and as a compassionate American, I have always had mixed feelings on it. It’s probably the worst aspect of war the world has ever seen, yet it was so necessary at the time since it probably saved more lives than it took by ending the war. I just hate that it had to happen to mainly innocent Japanese civilians. I know all is fair in war but man, can you imagine if another country launched a modern nuclear bomb on an American city? The world as we know it would be over in an instant.

My Grandfather was in the 509th and was on Tinian island. Had many stories he shared.

So very true. Read "Flyboys:A True Story of Courage"

Flyboys: A True Story of Courage is a nonfiction book by writer James Bradley, and a national bestseller in the US. This book details a World War II incident of the execution and cannibalism of five of eight American POWs on the Pacific island of Chichi-jima, one of the Ogasawara Islands.
