Found out today two people from a company I once worked for were on the plane, don't have names yet, but pretty small chance that I actually knew them.

It’s interesting that a growing number of airlines seem to be grounding their 737 MAX fleets prior to the major agencies or Boeing saying anything substantial.

Just tell them to strap an extra AoA sensor to the plane before y’all take off

Im guessing it’s a perception thing. These airlines have to be losing tons of money grounding entire fleets

AF447 could have been a completely normal flight. Co-pilots didn’t react properly to a false stall warning due to frozen pitot tubes. One imputed a climb and the other a dive. This neutralized any commands and they entered a stall. Captain (on break) came in before crash but it was too late.

Yep. That is the most frustrating CVR transcript to read.

quote:

First officer Robert said to himself, "climb" four times. Bonin heard this and replied, "But I've been at maximum nose-up for a while!" Captain Dubois realized Bonin was causing the stall, causing him to shout, "No no no, don't climb!"
ETA: I also posted about this earlier: LINK

I work in the Aerospace Industry and I can tell you it makes you look at flying (even a simple 30 minute flight) differently..
Anyone care to elaborate on this? Curious as to what are all the different things that would make someone look at flying different. I can only imagine.

Why aren’t there a lot more accidents if there are so many problems?

I'm not going to wade through 10 pages to de I'd it has been mentioned... The 737 max is what Southwest is choosing when replacing a retired plane.

This plane should have never been built.

Instead of upgrading from the 737 as originally planned, they’ve instead pushed a 50 year old design beyond its natural limits, and the workarounds they slapped on after the fact to compensate are unsurpringly not sufficient.

I don’t want to jump the gun but someone has blood on their hands.

Maybe Southwest is alerting passengers of 737s that their flights may be cancelled for this? I called them this afternoon when I got this message on my app for a return flight a WEEK away. All they would tell me was that the flight tower advised there may be issues with my flight. The message does not mention anything mechanical...nice. Looked on FlightAware and yep...737. Keeping the flight tho....

ETA: aaaaand guess what type of plane I’m flying on United to get there:
737-900 engine shuts down

I’m fricked.

Southwest is 100% 737's (of some sort).
