He did! A lot more than any President or candidate has done in the past and since. I remember seeing him handing out dolls to young girls. Maybe not much to help in the physical recovery but for young kids who went through it, those little things make a huge difference.

I didn't sleep a wink Friday night. I knew it was coming into the house, I just didn't know when. Had to be boated out, unfortunately after a foot of water had already come into the house. Horrible in every way.

We could start by putting some holes in the I-12 flood wall.

Any good maps showing what areas flooded?
How did insurance treat you guys after?

what did you want him to do ?
I bet you took that govt money though like all the rest
If by take gov't money you mean second mortgages to rebuild my house, yes. What did I expect, him to come down and see the damage himself. Seriously, its one thing to get updates about something like that but to come down and see and experience it, is two different things.

No flood insurance, I did not and still do not live in a flood zone. Had to take out second mortgage to rebuild.

This is not why we flooded, it just made it a bit worse. We flooded because we got like 46" of rain in 3 days after the same system dumped mountains of rain north of us for days before and a wet summer.

2016 ruined what little positive momentum Baton Rouge had.
Alton Sterling Shooting
The Great Flood
Then Sharon Weston-Broome getting elected

Crazy, rough time. Everyone freaked out in BR and came to my house. Then they shut pumps off and we got it the day after. Lucky only a few inches. Picture at my desk I have of my 1st born is from that day, in the back of a deuce and a half. Was good to see people band together.

My neighborhood was totally underwater as well, except for a handful of houses on one side. Must have been strange to be right on the dividing line between those who flooded and those who didn't.
Feels like only a matter of time before it happens again. Supposedly the Comite River diversion canal will finally be done within the next few years.

Wife and I had a rental property in Old Jefferson Subdivision--house sat on a slab almost two feet high and we still had 18" to two feet of water inside. Tenants ended up losing everything because they didn't think they would need renter's flood insurance. Was sad across the board. We flipped the house and had them back and in the house in like two months...completely renovated on the inside.
My mother was even more unfortunate. She had six feet of water in her house as she lived in the lowest part of that same subdivision. Claycut Bayou took no prisoners.
I barely got her Nissan Frontier out of the subdivision in time--had to drive it through four feet of water and definitely felt the tires leave the ground for a moment. I had luckily known to veer toward the higher sidewalk next to the street a moment before. The tires caught the ground again just in time for me to keep the truck's momentum moving toward the lower water levels and to safety.
Ended up getting the same contractor who flipped our rental property to do the same for my mom's house and she, luckily, sold and moved back home to Texas a few years later. We ended up selling our rental property after our same tenants broke their lease (all good there--they did it the right way) and got away from that property.
Definitely a stressful time for many who lost so much.

Statistically, we should be good for the next 1000 years.

More like the Great LP flood
Nine out of ten houses in the Central Community were flooded as well. It was really bad all around if you were anywhere near the Amite and the Comite Rivers. Fortunately, we were the 1 out of 10 in Central that didn't flood but we had about 15 extra family members set up in campers or in our house for the first month after. Our church was ground zero for Samaritan's Purse headquarters with visits from Trump, Pence, Franklin Graham and Sean Hannity to name a few. Rough time and I hope we never see anything like it again.

Let’s not forget pj’s prediction
quote:
I will stick by what I said earlier. BR won't get near 10-15 inches of rain, unless this system moves in a more northerly direction. I just don't see anything pulling it north.
