Until the 20th century, men and women worked apart in their own separate spheres.

In farming communities for example, the men worked in the fields all day, while the women remained at home where they focused on household chores. And the work they did at home was important, it was everything from laundry, to sewing, to cooking, to raising the children. And the oldest women were in charge. They had lived long lives, and their experience was prized. So they made the decisions.

Young beautiful women? They had very little power, because they were so young and inexperienced. The men may have liked them, but that didn’t matter much.

Modern life ended that. Men and women worked together, and the matriarchs were eliminated. For women their leverage in life, their power, was reduced almost exclusively to their beauty.

Once upon a time aging didn’t matter, because you would gain power over the years, running your family. Now that was over.

That’s a problem.

For women, your value peaks in your early twenties, and then drops, rapidly.

So women desperately try to forestal the inevitable.
