She's always had it slip in and out of place on her. But recently it slipped out and is very sore. It's immobilized in a brace, but she's still gone to work on a reduced schedule and isn't in huge amounts of pain.

The doctor says that this isn't an elective procedure and wants to bring her in this week. I am very-VERY-wary of doing this as I think she's rolling the dice with her health. Can't she just wait a month or two?

What would the OT do?

Sorry. No pics.

Yeah, I'm sure she could... but I can assure you that she'll be extremely well insulated from the coronavirus. Hospitals aren't fricking around with this.

I'll do it for half of whatever the other Dr. is doing it for.

I would definitely solicit advice from strangers on the internet before I took a licensed doctor's advice.

I dont think the doctors facilities that would repair a mild knee injury like a meniscus has anything to do with covid-19 ICU patients. Its a pretty easy procedure for those doctors.

OT would early retire on the beach and wait it out. Big baller OTs would have surgical lab setup in their third home and pay cash and fly the best surgeon with the hottest assistants in on their G6

Yeah many hospitals have set up specially designated units for patients either suspected or confirmed with COVID-19.

Meniscus doesn’t sound pressing.

Brace it and wait.

Why? Does your mom have to outrun a bear in the next couple of months?

Sounds like the doc needs money to keep the housenote/car notes/boat note going...

I'd ask if it could wait. If he says no, find a new doctor.

Are you also her caretaker? Does she not have the capacity to make the decision for herself?

Thinking worst case scenario, she falls and wacks her head on the ground or something else. That brain bleed will kill her a hell of a lot faster than COVID-19.

It is an elective procedure. It shouldn't need immediate medical attention, and that should ultimately be the call of the patient.
That being said, if she is still working, her chances of contracting the disease at work is probably greater than at the hospital where she will be having the surgery.
It might not be a terrible idea to have the surgery done and let the recovery time be part of the social distancing. However, if she has other issues and she is not comfortable with having the procedure at this time, it may be best to wait. But, if that is the case, it is probably not a great idea for her to still be working.

Just curious, will she be scoped?

Outpatient procedure?

If you're in BR, they won't be doing this procedure in a hospital. The risk is if something goes wrong and they have to admit her to the hospital.

These outpatient surgery centers are losing millions of dollars right now so I would imagine that their definition of "non-elective" is pretty loose.
