Seriously though. Not to say they aren't innocent, but that's seems to be the only remaining logical snag in the explanation.
Maybe she was okay with the guys joining in/taking over, maybe even invited it, but the father wasn't? That's the only thing I can think of. Or at least the simplest explanation.
