the voters voted for a tax to beef up security in the French Quarter and the mayors office wont give up the money and bring the LSP back to the Quarter even though the residents voted for it.....

But it's not a rededication. It's a tax that expired and then the voters brought it back... so it's not like it's taking money away from other city services...

She is awful.

Sort of on topic but slightly off topic.

I do a certification class for the state. 700 people a year sign up online and take this class.

Orleans parish sheriff’s office called and had us pulling our hair out by the end. They literally could not follow written and illustrated directions with screen shots to get their people signed up.

It was actually quite sad.

Think of how incompetent the NOPD is when it comes to admin stuff.

Then, understand the OPSO is made up of people who couldn't make the cut for NOPD.

independently operated school buses

What does this bit actually mean? These school buses are operated by individuals or companies outside of the management and oversight of the school districts? The school districts aren't even responsible for managing and maintaining their own buses?

She afraid to lose her control of the Quarter...it's a power thing. She thinks the Quarter is hers and only hers and she's afraid the businesses and residents are going to try and break off like Buckhead is trying to do in Atlanta and like the Gaslamp Quarter did in San Diego

Newsflash to her - She's already lost control of the Quarter. People don't want to spend money where they don't feel safe.

Bringing LSP back like Mitch The Bitch had isn't conceding any more than her predecessors did.

New Orleans Public Schools are an all-charter district.

Most/all of these charter schools/systems do not run their own bus transportation. Instead, they contract it out to bus companies.

Some of these bus companies are quite large with dozens of buses and several schools as customers. Other companies are just owner-operated single bus drivers.

Buses are owned by the individual drivers and they operate as independent contractors I think. Likely they have to meet certain standards, criteria, and qualifications to get the contract with said school system. Likely everyone was turning a blind eye to the record keeping as long as it kept their friends on the contract.

I don't know if they still do, but Jefferson Parish used to have a similar system for years. A childhood friend of mine's dad used to own a bus and drove a route for JP schools. On the weekends, he would have his bus for hire to drive for sports teams, scout groups, etc.

He used to keep the bus at his house, he had an long driveway built for it.

have to ever, even once, seen a cop pull over a school bus for any reason?

besides all they really do just get a batch of those stickers sent to the school boards mechanic shop and go slap them on every bus along with an oil change before school starts up

Seems like it would cut out alot of red tape and potential for corruption if the buses were owned and maintained by the school systems, which is a common practice in many other states and cities.

I guess this is just another way for the schools to absolve themselves of the liability of children under their care. "It wasn't our negligence or incompetence, your honor, it was that sorry, good-for-nothing bus owner."

As I stated above, the schools in this district are all charters.

There has been some discussion that the school district would itself run a transportation service and charge the charters for it... but the current thinking in the school district is to outsource and privitize as much as they can.

This is partially because before Katrina, the school district (when it was a traditional one) might have been the most corrupt and incompetent in the country.

you're missing my point....she doesnt want to give up control to private services to control the Quarter...I gave you 2 examples.

it's not about bringing back LSP....it's about admitting that she lost in the vote and now has to do what the voters voted on.....she has been defeated in just about every tax or candidate she's endorsed

Yep.

Shortly before Katrina, the Orleans school system was this close to being taken over completely by the state.

Rebuilding the whole thing from scratch improved it considerably at the cost of dumping a lot of the problem cases from there in BR, Houston, San Antonio, and other areas as part of the diaspora.

My point still remains that, even though she nominally has control over the FQ, neither she nor the cops have control over the area.

She'd rather rule in Hell than serve in Heaven. And it's going to end up killing the area as a result.
