4 month old sick kid: Thoughts
Didn't tell the Famil-OT but had a beautiful little girl a little over 4 months ago. She's had 5 ear infections and constant upper respiratory infections since she was about a month old. The ol' lady (no pics) and I counted and figured she's been on ant-biotics for over 75 straight days. She's been on amoxicillin 4 seperate times. Some super amoxicillin once and twice on some medicine that makes her crap red. We have pretty much bought stock in the Zarbee's baby congestion medication. We know that the ear infections are causing all the URI's so we got tubes put in last Friday but haven't seen much of a change in the current URI. Any OT docs or super dads/moms want to share some help?Any voodoo/natural/organic concoction? Any other OTC medications to give a try? Sleeping suggestions?

Baby sleeps well for a couple hours but eventually the laying (even elevated laying) let's the mucus pile up and no sleep so mom holds her up so she can sleep but then mom gets no sleep. It's been a long 3 months at night. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tubes should have helped Ear infections. May need to see different specialist

I'm just kidding...have y'all seen a specialist, or have y'all just been going to her pediatrician? That's definitely not normal.

We think that did for the ear infections as she's not going crazy when she lays flat now.

Thought about a different opinion from a pediatrician but once the ENT asked who our pediatrician was and he dang near did a flip and called her a rock star pediatrician we kinda backed off of that.

Just the pediatrician. What type of specialist would you see?

I used to always get ear infections as a baby so my parents ended up putting the tubes in my ears when I was like 2 and that really helped apparently. I was on the same amoxicillin type regiment as your girl to the point that it basically acted as water. You may not notice an immediate change since it's been less than a week since the tube surgery but give it time and that should help at least with the ear infections. The URI you should probably get checked out somewhere

Quarantine it in a closet.

I initially missed where you said she already got the tubes. ENT was going to be my suggestion. If y'all don't see any improvement an allergist/immunologist may not be a bad idea.

Hopefully the tubes will take care of it though.

Wrap it in a blanket and drop it off at a fire department

Hoping so. Thinking about going get one more round of anti biotics since now the ear infections are going to be cleared up with the tubes. We are thinking since before the tubes, the ear infections never truly went away so it was a constant cause of the URI's. Hopefully with no ear infections, a round of anti biotics will knock out the URI.

I been there with BOTH my boys, my oldest had Tubes at 4 months(insanely young compared to when they typically want to give them). He had 6 confirmed ear infections in 4 months. Since tubes, he's a completely different person and so happy/content(now 3)

my youngest had tubes at 10 months, stayed with ear infections, tubes helped A LOT.

Moral of the story, demand tubes ASAP.

crap, i missed the tubes as well. I would look into being Lactose intolerant. May have really bad allergies(we think my youngest whose about to be 1 has awful allergies but too young to test for them yet). Vick's and diffusing 24/7

Hopefully so. With her being on antibiotics for so long you run the risk of developing a really nasty antibiotic resistant infection.

Yea that's very concerning or just being resistant to antibiotics in general

SOmeone mentioned milk allergy. Is she on formula? If so wait a little while to see what he tunes do for you. If things get better but not dramatically, change formula

You need to have your pediatrician give you a referral to see a pediatric ENT. My daughter had 6 ear infections last year (she's 17 months), and we just had to finish a round of antiobiotic shots after 2 rounds of oral antibiotics did not clear up her double ear infection. Tubes are most likely the next step.

Do yall have mamaroo or rocker chair? We would put our daughter in those to sleep at an angle when the ear infections kept her awake. Otherwise, she'd have to lay on one of us. It sucks, I've been there (multiple times).

But what do I know? I'm just an OT mom and you were clearly looking for doctors/dads advice
