I have a 9 month old.

We had 3-4 ear infections that were treated with amoxicillin and some harder shite that turned his poop cranberry colored. We did tubes and it was a game changer.

Sleeps through night now.

Tubes won't help the current URI. But they will prevent the build up of fluid behind the eardrum and should greatly lessen the incidence of ear infections. Lots of kids struggle with recurrent upper respiratory infections. In can be due to many factors including allergies, genetics, reflux, and environmental factors like daycare and being around cigarette smoke. Hopefully the tubes will lessen the number of ear infections and allow you to break the cycle of antibitotics until her immune system kicks in a little better. Good luck.

Sorry you have that going on.

Sleep wise, until the URI clears, try having her sleep in her carrier. This might help her sleeping for longer periods.

As an older parent, I will give you the following advice.

1.) deal with it, it sucks for the baby and for you but it will probably pass.

2.) There is almost nothing OTC for a 4 month old.

3.) Are you running a humidifier? If so keep it clean as can be, if not, begin to do so.

4.) Our tubes helped immediately

5.) Any environmental allergies, detergents, pets, smoke, anything else that can be identified? Change all air filters for the best you can run thru your unit.

6.) Look at dietary allergies maybe? Maybe it is reflux? I know my kid had terrible reflux because he was born with a birth deformity in his esophagus/trachea. But his reflux kept us with respiratory problems for the first year.

7.) This too shall pass. And there is probably nothing that you are the doctors will do to make it get better. With that said, go see the pedi if you have any questions. A Moms intuition is dead on, if they think something is wrong, there normally is.

Amoxicillin is an old antibiotic. We fought similar issue with first child. Once dr listened to us about that antibiotic being crap and not working for my kid, switched med and things got better. After round of new antibiotic, stayed on a daily low dose antibiotic for a month.

I'm fortunate that my soon to be 2 year old has only had 2 ear infections.

Hope the tubes help a lot
