I'm not sure why I did it but I thought it would be funny to grab this fat girl's boob. I was maybe 13 at the time. Her and her friend retaliated by kicking me in the nuts and stomping me while I was on the ground. This brought the attention of a counselor over to me. The counselor was then able to coerce what happened out of the 3 of us. Some of the counselors took me to a room and had a prayer circle for me or something like that. Then they called my parents and put me on a bus home by myself. No charges were pressed thankfully since I was just a kid.

My kids went to Camp Laney and Camp Skyline in Mentone Alabama. But they are just 2 week sessions, but I assume they would let the child stay for multiple sessions.

I went to Laney back in the 70's It is a great place.

Wife and I want to send the kids on a 1 month to 2 month long summer camp somewhere outside of Louisiana so they can experience the outdoors and be kids.

That shite ain't right. Spend some time with your kids and stop taking the easy way out.

Went to 4-H summer camp for 4 weeks for 5 years in a row as a kid. Loved it every year. Learned a bunch too! I I did at Camp Sacandaga on Great Sacandaga Lake in Saratoga County NY. Not sure of the town name. Maybe Gloversville. My parents didn’t send me far as we lived about an hour away growing up. Not a bad word to say.

Not so much. Summer just started in upstate NY. They don’t get out of school until the last week of June. Start back after Labor Day. One of the things I hated most when moving south in high school, going back to school in August when it was still 237° outside. Morons. “Let’s start the year with a $20,000.00 electric bill.”

Just looked up the "tuition" Straight up OT baller for that shite.

I worked as a counselor at a summer camp in the Northeast US in the late 90s, over 20 yrs ago.. Back then, the tuition was $5k per kid, per summer.. some families had 3 or 4 kids at the camp.. One of the kids in my bunk had family who started this big grocery store chain , another had grandparents who started/owned Fisher Price toys(!) Needless to say, they were a little spoiled.

We vacationed in York Beach, Maine as kids every summer. For a few months out of the year, Maine is the most beautiful state in the country.
Aug-Oct to clarify.

There is one in South Carolina that some friends of mine send their sons. Its two weeks, but they are not allowed to bring cellphones with them or use any type of electronics, etc. I will find out the name if you want.

This. Only I stopped going right before high school started.

Clearly the camp has a lot to do with the experience, but i went to a 1 month long one here in Alabama pretty much every summer from 3rd grade through graduating high school (4 years were as a counselor). Some of my favorite experiences as a kid was from there. Was a ton of fun and really grew up a lot going. If you choose a good camp, it should definitely be a net positive for your kids.

Why would you want to send you kids away for 2 months? Do you not love them?

Just remember the longer they go the more stuff they need. I stressed out packing a trunk for a weeks worth. For a long term camp I’d consider uniforms or one that lets them do laundry after a couple of weeks. Of course, this is the stuff moms think of. The amount of stuff on the packing lists are crazy and it took me a few weeks to gather and label it ALL. I was surprised when my 9 year old showed back up with all of her belongings. Also, dropping them off is fun and I think necessary when they are very young. Picking up is over rated. If there are charter buses home use them or have the kid brought to the airport and flown home. Most decent camps will provide those services.
