They are building a massive neighborhood off of Jones Creek near Coursey. 400-500 houses I believe. I don't see how they'll have more than one entrance/exit.

And that makes traffic worse on a major artery and eventually they are forced to put in a traffic light.

That's nothing compared to what all of that concrete and asphalt will eventually do to drainage if they can't get that fricking diversion canal built.

ETA: Will they at least connect it to Coursey Cove or Market Street?

Speaking of U Club…what I don’t understand is how it is legal for the developer to continue to add more and more filings and more and more houses but only have 1 exit. If that subdivision ever had to evacuate in a hurry…it couldn’t. Lots of people would be stuck. That is a huge disaster waiting to happen and yet the developer keeps ignoring this fact and cashing in because he can.

A huge disaster waiting to happen? They don't live on an island

What would happen in a subdivision that would suddenly force every person living there to evacuate at once?

Even if they did, a person at the back would wait maybe 5 minutes to turn onto Nicholson?

SHF isn't going to be extended to Airline unless you want to bring it through residential neighborhoods, apartments, churches and commercial buildings.

Is that on some long term plan?
If so its never going to happen and if somehow you got to Airline by Costco then traffic between Bluebonnect and 12 would be even worse.

No way that happens.

Weird setup. If they had to, I'm sure they could do a flyover between N and S Harrell's Ferry east of Sherwood. They never will though.

The flyover was the ticket, but never in the cards.

You could get cars from one side of 12 to the other side of 12 without getting on SF.

Was that you that brought up how craptastic the sidewalk project was going on Gardere?

I just pointed out the delay. Sidewalks are needed for pedestrians and for folks catching a bus.

January 28, 2015 the Metro Council voted to build sidewalks on Gardere.
To date they haven't done anything yet.

I hope MoveBR goes a little faster.

ETA: and yes I noticed how the casino got a direct route to their property.

And no I didn't oppose extending Starring, it's needed.

As I said previously, you're wasting time, money, and resources doing it that way. Again, they went with that same thought process on Hwy 73 in Prairieville, and it didn't solve anything with the traffic. It took them damn near 5 years to do it, too.

May as well just keep it like it is now.
Center turn lane with sidewalks or bike lanes should work fine on Lee. The only traffic build up is for people going northbound that stay on College while College is backed up. Hopefully the improvements to College will help that. For Lee though, if you want to take a right or left, you typically don't wait until you get to the intersection if it is backed up. You would just turn onto a side street then make a tun onto Perkins... Most Traffic on Lee is from people taking left turns with constant traffic coming the opposite direction. A center turn lane will eliminate that.

You obviously don't live there. If that were true, why would they need a sheriff stationed at the entrance now just to help get people out of the subdivision on a random Monday morning? It can take 20+ minutes (or longer) to simply get out of that subdivision if there is an issue on the interstate.

What could happen? I don't know...levy breach, floods like we experience 2 years ago (it sits on Bayou Manchac)...one of those chemical plants right down the road having a spill or leak? Any of those would create a HUGE issue.

So the same sort of issues that could potentially affect half of the city, gotcha

There are not many subdivisions in Baton Rouge that has that same number of houses...and just one exit (which happens to be onto a very busy highway thus complicating the matter even more).

It’s absolutely asinine how a project that actually cost more like 2-3 million for labor, materials, studies, etc. somehow becomes 35 million. frickin thieves

I suspect a good amount of imminent domain will be needed to appropriately widen the corridor. Lawyer fees alone will be astronomical.

So, we won't see any work from this tax passage until football season, TWO years from now. Why wouldn't they pass a tax for this without at least 1 or 2 of the projects ready to go?

There are eight or more projects left over from the Green Light Plan included in this package. They should be on the fast track.

A 2 lane road with center turn lane has proven to be safer than a 4 lane undivided road without a center turn lane.

Probably because they didn't want to spend that much money on the planning process for a tax that hadn't been passed yet. There would be complaining that they shouldn't be spending time/money without having the tax passed

Yeah some people are going to get hit by a car there. It took a while for them to add sidewalks to E Boyd. Not sure what the delay is for Gardere other than the steep open ditches.

Are they doing anything with that now?

I can't believe there hasn't been more accidents on that stretch. ETA: There was something that looked like a game trail running along both sides of the road last time I drove through it. It's been a while though.

lik ei have posted last i read was last year...... and they were 18 months into the plan and 6 months behind. And now, a year later, still nothing there. IMO that money disappeared into some peoples bank accounts.

I thought it failed the first time and passed in 2006 amid the post-Katrina traffic gridlock.

Correct. That and the easy stuff (sidewalks, etc.) will probably get started in 2019.

They brokered a deal with tigerland clearly. They pay the cops good money to patrol on off hours so no on duty cops touch it.

They love pulling cars over coming out of Perkins area bars tho

What?

No. The squad of officers in Tigerland are on-duty and pulled from other assignments to sit there and babysit on busy nights so the patrol officers for that precinct can focus on responding to calls. BRPD pays out the arse for that and I'm shocked they haven't put up a fight against the bar owners yet.

If there is any money coming from the Tigerland property owners, I am completely unaware of it.
