WIldlife management is a thing, whether you like it or not.
One way out, but you just can't go out the door.

It is, and it isn't what your scared, dumb arse is advocating, nor do you understand it.

What would make you feel "safe"?
Killing every alligator within five miles of that woman's house?
Killing any bison that happens to get close to a parking lot at a national park?
Killing every bear or mountain lion that defends its cubs or is startled by a hiker?
Dousing millions of acres with wasp spray to kill all the wasps because your scared arse got stung one time?
Should we kill all the sharks that ever get close to the shore? Would that make you feel safe?
How about deer? We should kill them all, because even where we manage them well people still hit them with their cars......and some of those people die.
What will make YOU feel safe when YOU step off of your doorstep?

What is it you don't think I know or understand, and why do you keep insulting me? I haven't called you any names in this thread, but you keep calling me names.

And I didn't call you "names", I called you dumb.

Every large alligator should be relocated or killed. Short answer is yes, kill them.

Something like a hunting season should be opened for Bison so the shy ones reproduce and the bold ones do not.

See above.

Spraying a wasp nest on my property is bad according to you?

Large sharks attacking people, yes.

Yes, we already have seasons for deer killings. It is a good thing.

Yes.

I just keep things simple… the sharks don’t come where I am at, so I don’t go where they are….
And there you go.

This is insane. A random shark encounter (a smallish bite and immediate release) is par for the course along the gulf coast once a month in the summer. What is NOT random is more than one in a week, Three in one day?...in the same general area? And violent attacks involving loss of a loss of limb?
It’s worse than that.
Typical shark attacks are curiosity bites on surfers, those swimming past the second sandbar or in low light/muddy water conditions.
The shark bites a person, realizes it doesn’t want to eat them and let’s go. Sutures, a unit of blood and a cool story for the surfer.
This was completely different. In all three cases the shark(s) involved bit people close to shore, in full daylight in clear water and proceeded to try to eat them. In one case a man apparently had to battle it for the woman’s life.
There was video of some Orcas near destin this week. Its possible the sharks are getting chased out of their preferred hunting grounds by apex predators. Of course all of that is speculation.
But either way, this was a really bad, albeit incredibly unusually situation and all three women were in serious to critical condition, with one having lost her hip, part of her stomach, part of her arm and other injuries.
I promise you people will be out hunting that shark tomorrow so they can open the beaches and reassure beach goers that what might well be a true predatory shark or sharks are dealt with and publicly.
All that said its 100x more likely you get hurt in a car wreck than bitten by a shark on the Emerald Coast.

the reality is that they're swimming around us all the time, but we just don't realize it.
think about how many videos there have been of people on the 15th floor of said hotel in Destin, Panama City Beach, Pensacola, etc, who have filmed sharks swimming around tourist like it's an obstacle course
it's like dying in a plane crash... if it's your time to go, it's your time to go.... 99% of sharks don't have any desire to attack a human, but 1% of them will.

They have artificial reefs at the marine park in Navarre Beach.
I was down there at the end of May. We stayed on the 14th floor of Belle Mer and boy did we see sharks from the balcony. Many close to the beach. It was shocking how much marine life came through. Massive migration of stingrays going on. Lots of king mackerel swimming by regularly. Massive amounts of bait fish, everywhere. It seems like that area is thriving.
We also had a big moon every night so maybe that stirred it.

This would’ve never happened to Jim Dangle.

10-20’ off the shore you’re usually good. You go out to the sand bars - roll in the dice
I've watched a greater hammerhead that was cruising about 20' from the shore. Bullsharks will damn near walk up the beach.

What artificial reefs are there off 30a? Never heard of that. You’re telling us there is something you can reach from the beach? Not buying that.

Here you go. Kinda cool. Bet no one goes that far out for awhile after the water’s back open.
STR owners are already in a tizzy here - rentals are down due to the private beach debacle and now this tragedy has occurred. (No, I don’t rent. I live here full time)
Prayers for the victims and their families.
