That’s great for you. I have the same attitude.

Probably one rogue shark or at worst, a bad statistical anomaly. For the tens of thousands of people in the water at that time, three got attacked. That’s such an outlier of a moment it isn’t worth considering.

Granted, if there’s some acid trip algae in bloom causing sharks to go into rage mode, then I’ll be worried.

But to think that my 5 and 10 year old can’t catch any waves at the shoreline because of something that has a stupidly low probability of happening doesn’t sit well with me. My wife won’t shut up about it.

(I’m venting about some issues I have with my wife obviously)

I live a couple counties over (gulf). Every mouth breather hill billy in the area wants to exterminate the sharks more than ever. Smh

When your kids see all the other kids in the water and beg to do the same, she’ll cave. Then, you’ll all have the added bonus of having less respect for someone who talks a mean talk but gives in at the last minute.

Thankfully my wife is not that neurotic. We go in 4 weeks, probably won’t even think about it by then.

Same. We were in the water for 3 days 100 yds from that Okaloosa fishing pier.
googled where that was since I thought it was close to where we were. We’re just a few miles down the beach from there through the rest of the weekend. We’ve been here all week but after watching that GoPro video and Jaws I don’t feel like going swimming the rest of the time we’re here

ETA still feels like an overall irrational fear. Been swimming at the redneck riviera for decades and never had any problems with them.

Just an update this morning: still double red flags out. No one in the water. It’s our last day here but this sucks.

We were at PC a few weeks ago and saw a 3-4 footer just inside of the first sand bar early one morning. Lots of rays swimming about also.

We have a place on Lake Michigan. Cool, laid back, fires on the beach. No tshirt shops. Ohh yeah, no fricking sharks.

Being a life long Florida baw, I’ve seen enough sharks that I don’t go in the ocean too often. Not my place

Hard same. I am perfectly happy looking at the ocean from my umbrella shaded chair and switching to the pool post lunch. Ocean freaks me out.

Saw that it’s actually single red and purple, meaning the beaches aren’t deemed closed. How many people headed out past the sandbar this morning?

We spend about a month per year there. My great grandfather built it so it’s been in the family for a long time and hopefully my great kids will get to go there with their kids.

We are in Perdido now. My wife is worried but I told her that the sharks have always been there. I did bring my drone, I've always wondered how I will react if I actually saw a shark.

Flags change at 10 am daily. Takes awhile for the lifeguards to get up & down the beach to physically change them.

Red flag = knee high is too high

Playing around at the shoreline is still fun.

I’d say about 98% of the people at the beach. The other 2% are unhappily married

There were a few people in waist deep about 10:00 a.m. where we were (between the two attacks). Lots of fish/baitfish activity in close. Water is pretty calm. I don’t think I’d be out there this morning.
