Same for me and it’s because it was so obviously random. It’s one thing when shite is targeted for whatever reason. Those you can stomach because it’s like “well don’t play with fire and you won’t get burned” but this one is different. We’ve all either been there at 2:00am going or leaving somewhere or have children or other loved ones who do. It’s too close both in proximity and at heart. And too fricked up. And every bit as inexcusable as inexcusable can be. It’s unacceptable in every sense of the word.

The Holder Plan is designed to do just that, Section 8-ing the entire country

Can we please keep politics out of this thread? It cheapens the message. There’s an entire board for it and this thread isn’t on it. I think we can demand change from the media in how it treats local politicians while keeping politics separate.

I feel ya, but “politics” is EXACTLY why this happens.
LBJ and the great society, has now led to our forth generation of fatherless black homes, which has its consequences.
Like this tragedy.

We have members of our local media telling Brian Kelly that they’ll be on time to press conferences if he wins games without the bat of an eye but will sit and smile while SWB and Murphy Paul talk about how senseless crime is and that we need to encourage speaking out, then gushingly thank them for their time after their empty statements instead of saying, “hold up, you’ve been in charge for years now and things are only getting worse. Who’s to blame and why is it you?”.

Yes, one of Biden’s platforms was to expand Section 8 into the suburbs. And still, suburbanites voted for him.

Sadly, I am not sure what can turn BR around at this point. There seems to be little potential for improvement.

I don’t disagree but unfortunately I can’t move (it’s exponentially better career wise for us to stay), so I want to fight like hell to improve it.

This wouldn’t happen under Kip. Miss him.

He went to LSU and Southern.

Instead y’all have someone from Chicago where this is just everyday. Disgusting.

Tonight 6 large cops arrested a KA for “jaywalking” across Boyd. Threw him on the ground, handcuffed and arrested him. People are getting murdered and they want to arrest a college kid for freaking jaywalking!

This is a an individual/micro level solution and the default response. For the people who are living here and wanting to fix this, OP is asking for a macro solution.

The current politicians are doing what there were elected to do. Sorry, but BR is exactly what Democrat leadership in cities looks like. There is no shaming them or changing them bc this is what they are and they are elected and re-elected on this basis.

Same, as a parent of two kids, including a daughter I must admit, the previous two days have been rough. I feel so badly for Allie’s parents, I could hardly imagine what they’re going through.

These thugs only respond to violence met with extreme force. I have zero faith in the 19th JDC where they couldn’t even bring to justice the tPOS who violently murdered the Indian PhD students back in 2007. They gave one of the thugs a plea deal to testify against the trigger men, and the DA’s office was played when the tPOS refused to testify after the deal was signed. BRPD is stretched too thin with a racist administration that only cares about keeping quiet about the real violent crime problem plaguing BR. It’s a complete lawless situation where it’s tPOS who are a cancer to society who think they can freely victimize people who contribute to society.

we have family members who are in the same situation. This one hits hard because we have certainly been downtown and/or to red stick social and traveled home that same exact way. Last time I was there it was just me and another woman alone. This plus the crimes on campus are not ok. And whatever can be done to protest in media and government should be done.

I agree but Kip Holden is an LSU Tiger and I loved living in BR when he was the mayor.

Was there crime? Yes, but not record breaking numbers.

Until the DA starts keeping the animals in jail the problems will continue.
