I have an employee whose wife works at Home Depot. He’s told me many stories about their no-stop policy.

While I despise thieves, I despise these companies for this enabling of them. I hope they get bankrupted by shoplifters.

Supposedly the Walmart on the north side of Lafayette closed down because they had so much theft that Walmart said, “frick it. Shut it down.”

Just how do these people steal items so easily?

frickin lawyers

Store policy allows it to happen and no one can physically stop them. Fear of lawsuits. Basically you can walk out with anything you want

You can’t be this stupid. You think the stores are the ones making this decision? You must not know much about our wonderful criminal justice system and all the horseshite it enables.

They could beef up security to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Do jewelry stores have this same policy? Banks?

I know Best Buy used to have a guy to check receipts at the door. At least it was something. Try to steal a book from a library. Office Depot has a similar system. Just allowing them to walk out unimpeded is moronic.

Employee theft in most stores is the number 1 cause of loss. Loss prevention for corporations devote most of their time and energy to employee theft.

Plus, the do not stop policy is mainly for the protection of employees. You don't know if the thief is packing a gun or weapon and then you possibly have dead customers and employees.

Vast majority of chain retail has a no stop policy. It's actually cheaper to focus on employee theft than risk lawsuits and injury due to stopping customer theft.

It's really no big deal.

Home Depot should allow food stamps so that people like this aren’t forced to steal

I think these cats are on to something.

If it’s not more than $750.00 per jurisdiction, they really shouldn’t be prosecuted anyway.

Just go from HD to HD and steal a lawnmower and some random items and keep on moving.
