re: 3/4s of millennials are more than $100,000 in debt, most not from mortgages

What is reasonable? If someone made 500/hr would that make it reasonable?
Reasonable is relative. I guess at that point it becomes a matter of just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
Prosperity today doesn’t guarantee prosperity forever. Life changing events happen. I guess I’m a saver and not a spender.

I prefer to be both.

course… why does “living” mean you have to indulge in $100 meals when you can be just as happy cooking with friends at home, or eating out reasonably?

Well no shite but that's not the argument you made. You said eating out is a cause. It's not even a top 10 cause.

$100 isn't even an extravagant outing for a person anymore. That's a steak, a side, and a couple cocktails at a standard steakhouse. SOP for the traveling businessman on any day of the week.
Hell I could get close to that all in at Chilis these days if I was hungry and wanted a few more than a couple beers.

I don't drink, and I'm happy about that when I go out to eat because goddamn those drink prices are nuts. I don't see how yall do it.

Yea, booze can exceed food pretty quick depending on your appetite and priorities.
I'm sure the boomer solution is for everyone to just not drink since a beer isn't $1 for us like it was for them. Of course if your credit card debt is rooted in alcohol purchases, then yea maybe take some time off.

I'm Gen X and my family hardly ever eats out at all and that is how I was raised. I might eat out 3 times a month. Believe it or not, but it saves me a shite ton of money.

I said it plays a big role, which it does. Millennials eat out more than older generations and we’re assuming more debt. It’s not a huge leap to see one is connected to the other.
Does it really matter if it’s causal or correlational? My generation is making bad money decisions and the topic of this thread proves it.

yeah no kidding. if i spend less than $100 on a friday or saturday night, i'm feeling very good

I enjoy eating out and spend a solid amount every month trying new restaurants but I rarely have more than one drink at dinner.
Usually just have a glass of wine and that’s it. If I have a cocktail to start and I’m dying to have another drink I’ll order a beer.
When I go out to eat I’m more into the food than the drinks but that’s just me.
I’m older now so I’m very rarely in situations where I’m looking to knock back multiple cocktails made by someone other than myself or a friend.

shite is just expensive. Even the smug blue collar gray hairs in here will bitch about that in a different setting. But in here, if you're 40 or younger, bitching about or struggling with the cost of something is tantamount to being a lazy piece of shite with no money management skills.

It does not. It is not a top 10 reason.

It is a huge leap.
We are assuming more debt because literally all of the major things you need and have to finance-a car, college/secondary school/housing, have way the frick up.
My family house has increased by over 100k in value over the last 5 years alone. But yeah little Timmy getting that 2nd glass of wine is why millenials are broke

List out your top 10 causes of debt.
If poor money management isn’t included, you’re being disingenuous.
I’ll save you the time: it’s absolutely in the top 10.

Just wait till the housing market crashes in the upcoming recession.

Why wont brandon just make income used to pay off student loans non-taxable like 401k contributions? BC that still requires work?
