140k in student loan debt for medical school
So 140k for ~4M+ over a career. Seems like a good trade.

Meh, I don’t care what anyone says, but it’s just more expensive to live today. My dad paid $100 a month in health insurance to cover a family of 5. Now it’s about $600 just to cover a family.
Car insurance, electricity, and water treatment are all more expensive.
Now add in you need basic internet access and a cell phone to essentially exist/work and that’s easily an additional $150 a month.
Stuff people never had to worry about.

126k in student loans?!? How? Unless you are going to med school, I don’t see how you would need to take that much out. Stop going to fricking expensive schools. Damn.
Watched a good video on youtube a while back of a doctor talking about tuition and other costs to get through med school.
He said a doctor will end up spending $1M for their education. He didn't bring politics into it.

So you think med school should be free?
No it obviously shouldn't be free, but the excess administration cost snd fees make kids go to the government for "financial aid" at the tune of 9% interest
That's beyond fricked up. But yeah, let's make it financially difficult to become a doctor, engineer or teacher. frick those people right?

It's not that kids suddenly started getting degrees in underwater basket weaving. The % of kids getting "real" degrees isn't much different than it was years ago.
It’s actually higher I’m pretty sure. Like most OT memes, kids these days getting worthless lib arts degrees en masse is based on feelings, not facts.

But I'm probably wrong. Maybe I'll go to LSU and study gender sciences while I float in their lazy pool.
We should make it easier financially and harder academically.
Not everyone gets to go to college but the ones that do shouldn't be up to debt in their eyeballs walking out.

Their accusing everyone else of putting feelings over facts is probably my favorite Boomer projection

Thailand doesn't really have a guest worker program. Thailand is unabashadly for Thais, and their bureaucracy is legendary. I nearly relocated there for a job working for a non-profit a few years back.
That was my point.. Thailand actually *does* have a ‘work visa’ to work in the country, but they also have several other types of visas that one may qualify for, which allow you to live in Thailand, rent a beautiful, modern condo for literally $200 or $300 US dollars per month, eat awesome street food for like $1.50 US dollars per meal , take advantage of their dirt cheap (but top notch) healthcare and then work remotely while starting ur business online or working remotely for a US company, making US dollars, if the company allows that … as to your point that Thailand is ‘unabashedly for Thais’, well no duh.. every single country is going to be ‘for’ their own citizens, but they also realize that foreigners bring in a shite ton of money so it’s a balancing act for them .

I know two Americans who live in Thailand. They decided to move there because they love the country, not because they were looking to save big money on COL expenses.

We must move in different circles, b/c the people i know who live in SE Asia love where they live AND they love the immense cost savings and quality of life.. both can be, and are, true.
I like to look at listings all the time in countries im thinking of moving to, here are a couple of examples (out of thousands) from Thailand alone, in Phuket which is the part of Thailand where I’ll eventually live.. i realize not everyone wants to live in a condo, or be that far from family- but a lot of people , including myself, view it as a possibility .. the first listing is 15,000 Thai baht, which equates to $420 US dollars per month.. the second is $336 USD per month.. you can pick apart these places in terms of space or whatever , but you cant pick them apart in terms of price .

First one looks like a run of the mill college place at lsu and the second looks like a hotel room.
If going to Thailand, wouldn't you rather not live huddled up with a bunch of people?
Don't they kind of go hand in hand? The second place is 430 square feet. The first is around 330 square feet. Over 1$/square ft to live in a box doesn't sound great

I can find you a 400 sq ft apartment within 15 minutes of downtown Dallas for like $500. Not a very good arguement

No you cannot .
I have a buddy who just moved to Dallas area, rented a small 1 br in a not so great area for $1300 per month.. besides, even if you COULD find a place at the price you described- you’d have to live in freaking Dallas Metroplex.. at least in most of Thailand, you’re close to lots of beautiful beaches, can eat some of the most awesome food on the planet (there’s a reason there’s Thai food restaurants on every corner in the US) and self-insure b/c health care is so cheap…. Like i said, not trying to convince anyone, you do you- but i cant see why anyone would stay in the shite hole that America has become .

That's completely irrelevant to what I said.

I think the bigger change is how expensive credentials have become. In the 80s, the requirement for a CPA license changed from 120 hours (4 year bachelor degree) to 150 hours (essentially masters level)
Gotta keep the supply of CPAs down and the fees up so the boomer partners can buy second homes and pay alimony and child support for their neglected families baw!
