28 Years Ago - Who Remembers Watching the LA Riots Live?

Unrest began in South Central Los Angeles on April 29, after a trial jury acquitted four officers of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for usage of excessive force in the arrest and beating of Rodney King, which had been videotaped and widely viewed in TV broadcasts.

The one scene that sticks in my head, was watching the beating of Reginald Denny.
quote:
Reginald Oliver Denny, born 22 January 1956 (age 64), was a 36-year-old construction dump truck driver on the first day of the rioting. He was attacked by several men, pulled from his International Road Tractor and brutally beaten, sustaining serious head trauma and other injuries. Denny's ability to speak and drive were affected by the attack, and he had to undergo years of rehabilitative therapy.

Uncut- Reginal Denny Attack

April 26th, 1992
There was a riot on the streets
Tell me where were you?
You were sittin' home watchin' your TV
While I was participating in some anarchy

Those four worthless pieces of dogshit getting off as easy as they did is infuriating. They should have all gotten 30 years, at minimum.

Remember very well. That was back when I trusted the media.

I was in the Navy and we were at sea. They kept that news from us. I remember pulling into Sydney and seeing all that crap on the tv's at the bars. We all were glad we weren't there.

I was 13 years old eating dinner with my family at Shogun in Shreveport on 70th st. I distinctly remember my dad telling us it was time to wrap it up because we were so close to Cedar Grove.

The 90s doesn't seem like that long ago until you watch some news footage or something like that

s the families of the defendants celebrated the lesser sentences, Denny surprisingly approached Williams' mother, Georgiana, and hugged her.
