No, I was football only. I should have played, but didn't realize that until it was too late.

I’m glad someone else linked the story, Bc OP is useless. And then I had to google Sterlington Bc where the frick is Sterlington. You’re better than this, OP.

I was at OG at that time, so I'm not sure. I think Dell Ashley took over for football in 1996? I have no idea about baseball.

We saw the news on CNN at the time. My family moved to Sterlington right after this happened. Everything was still trashed, the plant looked like a tangled mass of pipes. It was quite an experience.

Yes he was, and his fat-arse assistant Pero Stuart.

Sterlington's football team always sucked arse until Ashley took over and they built the new school.

I was in 8th grade when this happened. I was sitting in math class about 5 miles up the road. Some girl in class said is that thunder. We all laughed. about 30 minutes later the school came on the the intercom and dismissed school because of evacuation of the area. 165 was closed so we had to detour home.

Sparky is my cousin is why I asked. I know he said more kids went out for the band than football is the reason why Sterlington probably sucked back then.

I liked Sparky, but he wasn't really a football coach. He was always more into boxing. As far as the talent at SHS (there was only about 100 kids 7-12), the athleticism was there, but the intelligence was lacking
We never threw the ball, and about the only play ever called was 48 toss-sweep

That's a name I haven't heard in awhile.

I remember when students would be fighting he would make them put boxing gloves on and finished fighting.

Awful....just awful. Those poor workers. They got up, ate breakfast, most likely drank a cup of coffee, maybe kissed their wives and kids. By sunset they were dead. I only hope it was fast and they didn't suffer. It appears from reports it was exactly that......massive and violent. Wow, already 27 years.

You never know when your number will come up.

I know there's a bunch of NELA folks on here, but didn't realize there would be any Sterlington people on here.

In 91 I bet the population was maybe 900? And that's being generous.
