My dad’s family arrived in North America in 1737. I believe I remember reading that our patriarch’s son (my 8x great-grandfather) fought in the same unit as the one John Marshall, the future Chief Justice of the United States, started out in (the 3rd Virginia).

My ancestors came over in the early 1600s and gave those frickers hell up and down the great commonwealth of Virginia. I’m proud I’ll get to be buried next to those Patriots one day in our family cemetery.

In light of recent US history, I'd say: I'm not convinced that this was the best idea.

New York was also governed largely by British sympathetizers. They worried for their way of life and virtue signaled the wrong way.
