I still think we are incredibly lucky we do not see this more often here stateside. Not to minimize when it does happen such as the gay nightclub shooting or the black church shooting, but if ISIS or or some other organization were really committed, I don't see how we could stop this from happening monthly here.

This. The one good thing to come out of the War on Terror is we rebuilt our spy network in the ME. It had been dismantled and now we are up and running again. I'm sure it has paid dividends

If there is one "good" takeaway from the fact it DOESN'T happen all the time, it's that I think western culture has more sway in changing people's beliefs on the value of life than we sometimes give it credit for.
I won't say we're winning that battle, but if you walk around London for 10 minutes, you'll see a ton of Muslim Londoners enjoying life. While I think plenty of those people harbor sympathies for terrorist act, the western lifestyle probably keeps a lot of those folks from getting into the game themselves.
